I had an eye exam today. If you have been following my range reports you might not be surprised to hear I have cataracts. This getting old sure isn’t for the young at heart.
The good news is surgery should be able to fix it.

Jumping back to the first post, I had my eyes done a few years ago. I have mixed feelings about it.

Once you are on Medicare they seem more than ready to pay for it, and it seems many eye surgeons are more than
ready to take advantage of it. I'm not sure I needed it, but I was eligible. Cash cow.

I was assured that I would not need my glasses after. They even asked if I wanted near or far vision. I chose far as I
figured I could use reading glasses for up close if I needed them.

The first eye done and the eye patch was very painful as it was taped on so tight. I told the doc about that for the second
one and he said, "Well, just loosen it up". I would have like to have known I could do that up front.

They said that when headlights were glaring it was time to get the surgery done. Well, OK, but now they are much brighter.
Not sure I gained anything there except things are now very much whiter.

He was correct when he said I wouldn't need my old glasses, I needed new glasses. I am now near sighted. When I questioned
him about that he raised his voice to me to remind me that there were no guarantees.

Strangely, when I started taking CBDs my vision improved greatly. Don't know why, but I don't always need glasses anymore.
I am typing without them right now. I wear them outside mostly because they are dark glasses.

Would I do it again? Not sure. My eyes were probably going to be a problem anyway by now, so yes, I probably would. Just go
into it with your "Eyes Wide Open".

My guess - CBD lowered your stress level and blood pressure some. More relaxed.

Could be, but I don't feel stressed and my BP is actually pretty good. I think instead that CBDs are an anti inflammatory
and that had some impact. I also don't feel any psychological effect f r om them.

Hope it's okay to bring this one back up near the top. I hope Sir Henry is seeing better by now, and if so, would be interested in hearing what it took to fix it. Same from the others that have responded here......

I'm a member of another message board that is, I guess, sort of more "local" to where I live, called Northwest Firearms. There was a thread there started by a member about options for corrective eyesight surgery. It seemed as if most that have had either RLE or Lasik were pretty happy about having had that done. Some had what seemed to be minor issues with "halos" or "ghosts" affter the surgery. Some of that seemed to be mostly while driving at night, and a few said it eventually went away (the brain is marvelously adaptable for that sorta stuff; just wish I had a brain..... ).

Anyway, I've taken an interest in this stuff recently as I seem to have developed a cataract in my right (dominant) eye. Just kinda mulling over what options I have to fix or maybe improve my nearsightedness/astigmatism/cataract issues, and wondering which I can afford.......

FWIW, my transitional glasses work just fine through my truck windshield.

I did not have surgery because it was not bad enough. In general I agree. The only problem I have is with shooting. I now live in a small town and doctors are far and few. What doctors are here are the bottom of the pile. All the good doctors live in large cities.

A little over 20 years ago I had lasik for vision correction not for any cataract or other issues. It worked great but now I find that my vision is declining. I started out needing reading glasses same as most my age but now my night vision is not good and I’m finding that reading road signs while driving is getting difficult. I could re-do the surgery but I probably won’t and just continue to use my glasses when needed.

But, the surgery even over 20 years ago was a piece of cake.

Same with me. I had my Lasik done in early 2001 and since then vision has gone downhill. I now use contact lenses.
