Re: February Ice Storm
We lost power yesterday morning about 7:00 a.m. It was finally restored about 9:00 a.m. this morning. The temps got down into the teens last night and it was 46 inside the house. We lost water about 3:00 a.m. this morning. I went to pee and flushed then the wife. When she got through and flushed there was no water. We left water dripping in the bathroom sink furthest from where it comes into the home. I'm hoping it's a pump station issue and our pipes aren't frozen. It was 14° when I got up this morning.

That's bad business, Jake. I've been thru that several times, absolutely, no fun. You never think too much about heat & water, until it's gone.Shakey Jake wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 11:52 amWe lost power yesterday morning about 7:00 a.m. It was finally restored about 9:00 a.m. this morning. I had quite a bit of ice here, but the power stayed on, so far the water has too.
Hope you folks get warmed up & water on soon.

Speaking of water shortages, there's an old saying to use in these circumstances:
If it's yellow, let it mellow.
If it's brown, flush it down.

We're still without power and It might be several days before they restore it. My wife ran into some of the local power company trucks near Walmart and spoke with them. The told her that there are supplemental crews on their way up from North and South Carolina to help. They will arrive in the area tonight. In the meantime we chug along on limited generator power.

Re: February Ice Storm
Couple inches of sleet here last night, dodged a bullet, was calling for 5” ice
Re: February Ice Storm
Haven't measured, haven't been outside, but appears to be maybe 3" total, ice & snow combined. More snow coming tomorrow.

Can't have too much wood inside on a day/nite like these. I don't have a stove anymore ( wish I did ). but remember it well.\

I'm about 14 miles north of the NC state line on I85. Some people here may not get their power on before the next ice storm hits tomorrow.fortyshooter wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 6:32 pmWhere abouts in Southside Va. 2ffat ? Re: February Ice Storm
Got up in the attic and found 7 splits in the copper pipe. Idiots put pipes in attics down here because 1) it's cheaper and 2) it isn't supposed to get that cold down here. Luckily I decided to turn the water off to the house and crawl my raggedy ole' ass up there to check. I got three of them fixed this afternoon but will have to wait for the others until tomorrow because Hope Depot is out of almost all plumbing supplies. There was a line to get in and the plumbing dept. was a war zone. I'll try to get three more fixed tomorrow and then see about the fourth. I may have to fix it the old fashioned way with heat and solder.

Always thought something similar about moving hay for my horse 5 times. Load bales on the truck, unload and stack them, put some in her trough, then load up her manure for the garden and then spread it on the garden.

Had horses up until 5 yrs ago this coming Summer.dave77 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 7:16 pmAlways thought something similar about moving hay for my horse 5 times. Yep, and we cut it, raked it, baled it, stacked it on the trailer, then in the barn.
Then to the trough.
Had cows also, they're gone also now. Been there done that one too. Days like the past few sure make me glad I no longer own one.

Re: February Ice Storm
Well getting ready for ice storm #2 which is supposed to be a mix of sleet/snow/ice starting around 3 AM Thursday morning and thru the day.
Hope our luck holds up but have the generator ready and groceries stocked up. 1/4 to 1/2 inch of ice is forecast.

I sure feel for all you guys and gals! My thoughts/prayers are with you. Glad to see that you're all able to keep your sense of humor! We have had about 15 days of not getting above 0. running from -40 at night with highs around -10. But I would much rather have that than freezing rain etc. We are now headed for a warm up with highs in the 30's in the forecast.
If any of you want to make the trip north, I'll keep the coffee on and the fire going for ya!
