Good morning, it's 39° here this AM with a predicted high of 61 later.
Got a big pile of fire wood to split after some breakfast and it warms up a bit.
Coffee at the moment.

Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
40 under a clear Carolina Blue Sky .... supposed to only get up to 58, no rain mentioned .... gradual warming trend with it slated to reach 81 on Thursday .... that's not to say we won't have another cold spell but this time of year they don't usually hang around long ..... plans for today are to rest my right knee, after a bunch of walking on hard surfaces while touring the NC Aquarium it needs an easy day .... looking forward to the Daytona 500, hope it proves to be a good race
Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
55 here when we got up. Blue sky ......wind is gone for now. Looks like a nice day. We are invited to the neighbors with a bunch of others to watch the 500. Im just going for the visit. All the good racing is gone forever.

Let’s see if I can ease back in here. It’s been a while. It was 38 earlier this morning with a projected high of high 60’s. Looks like a nice day ahead.

Woke up to 25 don’t know the predicted high but with the thin overcast hopefully we’ll see some sun today. A stout but short lived winter blast is coming in this week with snow and single digit overnight temps. Thankfully it’s only supposed to last a couple of days. Weather depending I may hit the range tomorrow and shoot the 300 Blackout.
Pretty much a recliner day ahead. First up is the Daytona 500 and afterwards we plan to watch the first Lord of the Ring movie. I just finished the book Fellowship of the Ring and want to see the movie again. Saw it 20 years ago when it came out but don’t remember much. Should be fun to see with the book fresh in my head. I’m reading the second book now and plan to watch the second movie afterwards. Never seen that one nor have I ever read any of the Hobbit books until now.

Finally lost some of this snow but winter storm warning for middle of this week. Went to mass, waiting on omelettes for breakfast and a video chat from Danish clan.

The Lord of the Rings movies followed the books pretty well. Several things left out but the movies would have to have been twice as long to include everything. I wish they could have included Tom Bombadil, a little more detail with Treebeard, and the Battle for the Shire.
The Hobbit movies were a different story. I watched the first one and have never watched the 2nd and 3rd movies, too many unnecessary changes for me.
Are you planning on reading and watching the 2nd and 3rd Lord of the Rings? The Hobbit is also a good book, I just didn't care at all for the movie which may have been fine for someone that hadn't read the book. Kind of like The Dark Tower, I enjoyed the movie but other than Roland the gunslinger it was completely different from the books. Of course the Dark Tower series was 8 books so it would not really be possible to make it any kind of a complete movie.

Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
47 degrees with a damp, cold feel .... they say it should get up to 65 later today with no mention of rain .... good to see they are calling for a warming trend to peak on Thursday with our first temp in the mid 80's for 2023 .... we want to spend some time this morning making medical appointments and planning our return home route and overnight stops on our way back home from South Dakota in late August

Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
It was 65°this morning on the dog walk. It's 70° now and headed to the lower 80's. We're supposed to have 80°+ degree weather all week this week. I cooked bacon, eggs, toast and coffee for breakfast.

We watched the first movie last night and I agree that it followed the book very well. I’m about 25% thru the second book and am getting to know Treebeard. I like the format Tolkien used following the different paths of the characters separately. I just now have been re-introduced to Gandalf (the White) which was a nice surprise turn. I read the Dark Tower book series too and saw the movie. Both were great.
Woke up to a very balmy 36 and we may see the mid 40’s today. Got winds coming in tonight and I hoping to get to the range before they arrive. Then tomorrow winter returns with snow and cold temps. According to the local weather guy the snow looks to be tracking more south of me and we may only see a couple of inches. Hope so. Our mountains are supposed to get hammered with a couple of feet!
Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
Oh goody, upto 18” of snow, just what we needed, just started getting rid of the 3’ of snow from earlier. Everyone have a great day

Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
The endings were sure different between the book and the movie. It's been many years since I read the books and I did like them but it almost seemed to me that King wasn't sure what to do with Roland so decided to make him do it all over (again). The whole last book got kind of crazy especially with King deciding to include himself in the story.Hatchdog wrote: ↑Mon Feb 20, 2023 11:03 am

Crazy end of Feb weather, it's been up to 50 the last few days but now it's decided we need to see low of 7 Thursday night. At least the cold snap is only supposed to last a few days.
