The morning was great, the shooting not so great, but even bad shooting is better than none at all!

No pinky. With a Henry mug in each hand, at a full gallop, I strain the boiling hot tea through the reins I'm holding in my teeth.

I just finished mowing my yard after taking the mower down a notch for the winter cut. Thought I should get a couple pix of the neighborhood tree line before everything drops. I noticed everything from leafless to full color going on. Hope you approve.

My home faces north. These are from looking West / North / East.

I know the Brit and Limey references. Where does Pom come from?

Supposedly from the days when England used to transport her prisoners/convicts to Australia. It is widely thought to come from Prisoner Of His/Her Majesty, although it is unlikely to be true. Acronyms are a fairly recent development and POM, according to the Australian National Museum, only came into existance around 1912, long after transportation had stopped.

Another explanation is that the hot Australian sun turned the newly arrived Brits as red as the inside of a pomegranate, so instead of calling them immigrants, they were jokingly referred to as 'pomigrants', which eventually became pom/pommy. The term is also used by New Zealanders when referring to Brits.

The pomegranate reference could well be correct, because South Africans - especially Afrikaaners - used to (and often still do) refer to the Brits as 'Rooineks', or red necks, as a result of their colour after experiencing the hot South African sun.

It looks like we're in for another nice day here. It's 47 degrees, bright and clear. I can feel another shooting session coming on - but not until I've had another cup of tea.

51* at 6:15 AM. I hope to get a little time in the woods today but may not have time with some work to get done here at home by Wednesday when the wife starts her vacation. I have the Sako 222 ready to go turkey hunting and hope to get out before Wednesday with the temperature possibly hitting 80* on Wed. Have a nice day.

its a beautiful morning in "upstate South Carolina" where we overnighted at a nice motel ..... they are calling for record high temps in this area for tonight's Trick-or-Treat .... local TV says there are backups on interstate so we are in no hurry to get on the road ..... the free motel coffee is actually pretty good, don't know how that happened ....

The rain didn't hold off yesterday while at the range but got some good shooting in anyway.

So far we have received over 12 inches of rain this month and its still pouring down. We broke the rainfall record for October which was somewhere in the 8 inches.
