A heartbreaker for Chris Buschner and his team too. They thought they had it. Until yesterday the record was at Darlington with Ricky Craven and Kurt Busch back in '03. In that race, the right guy won, Ricky Craven (all in my opinion, of course, lol).

Two close wins in the same week-end. The other at the Kentucky Derby.

Missed the Xfinity race today, too early in the morning down under, P15 for SVG P36 for Hallie.
Think Hallie had a flat in the 3rd stage, another impressive run by SVG given practice and qualifying were both cancelled and he had never turned a single lap at Darlington when the race started.
SVG seems to use the first 2 stages to learn the track get the car sorted and by the 3rd stage is on the pace. Looking forward to seeing how he goes when they start racing some tracks for the 2nd time. Think he will be on the pace from the start and probably a top10 contender most of the time.
Sitting 15th in points mainly as a result of not picking up stage points, would be comfortably above the cutoff if he was picking up a similar number of stage points to those around him.
Four of the top 6 in the points have over 100 stage points SVG has 11, Riley Herbst in 6th has 104, SVG is 102 points behind. On race finish points less than 10 points between them. similar when you compare him to team mate AJ in 7th, only about 10 points between them when you look at race finish points.
Stage points are hiding just how competitive SVG has been at the end of races and how regularly he is bringing the car home in a respectable finishing position.

Cam Waters cup series debut has been confirmed for Sonoma, after not having anyone form down under in Nascar for a decade and still not having anyone full time in the cup series we may have 3 supercars drivers on the grid for the Cup race at Sonoma with SVG Cam and possibly WIll Brown.

As much as I see your point, the race went over half way. In their own rules, once given a good try, that's a race. Not that I'm still a supporter of Nascar. Since they went woke, I'm still in boycott mode.

Race win for SVG in Xfinity, qualified P2 led early but pitted under green before the end of the first stage, lots of contact after that, off track excursions and kept dropping places every restart but kept passing cars to get back near the front. Managed to hold onto second after restart with 4 to go quickly passed cleanly for the lead and held onto to the finish.

Looking forward to Sonoma this weekend, SVG would have to be one of the favorites for the Xfinity win, disappointed he wont be starting the cup race but get to watch 2 Aussies make their cup debuts.
Dont think they will be able to repeat SVG's Chicago debut heroics but I think both will be genuine top 10 contenders. The weekend looks to be set up as well as they could hope to have success.
Road course which is their specialty, a track that despite never getting a win at Marcos Ambrose never finished worse than 8th in 6 seasons. Repave means there will be an extra practice session so they will get far more time to become comfortable in the car and work on setup etc than a normal cup race. 2 drivers in a similar mold to SVG that are not afraid of contact, racing hard and happy to move someone out of the way if they deserve it.

Interesting last year when Kostecki made his cup debut with RCR they did a bit of simulator work on Sonoma, within 10 laps he was over 2 sec quicker on the simulator than Kyle Busch. Throw in the success SVG has had and I think both drivers will go into the race with the belief that can win.
I dont think Nascar has ever seen that before, road ringers have been around for years but most seem to start the race thinking a top 10 finish would be a fantastic result. This weekend we will have 2 rookies starting the race who rightly or wrongly will go into the race with the belief they are fighting for a win.

P1 for SVG in Xfinity practice at Sonoma, in cup P3 for Brown and P36 for Waters.
Waters had a spin but kept it off the wall, would have destroyed a set of tires so no doubt effected his chances of putting in a good single lap time. Has never had trouble matching SVG and Brown for pace here in Aus so suspect his single lap pace is really similar to theirs if he gets things together. Waters has a bit of a reputation of being able to qualify cars above what their actual race pace is with 25 pole positions in supercars but only 12 wins and was runner up to SVG in his last championship year.

Repave at Sonoma has really increased the speed, I would not be surprised if come qualifying the entire cup field is under the existing lap record.

SVG is going to need more rugby balls. He is one hell of a driver.

He is quick but so are the other 2 that raced cup although you didnt really get to see it unless you were paying attention to the running order. Brown and Waters were both moving forward through the field in the 1st stage, both made up 10 or more places from their starting position on track.
Brown was running around the back of the top 10 before electrical issues saw him stop on track and ruined his day. Waters had also moved forward running around the back of the top 10 when he got caught up in someone elses wreck and suffered damage that put him out.

Another good win for Lason, he is just the total package. Watched a pre race interview with him that was very telling. When asked about the rookie supercars drivers his answer was quite revealing. He doesnt class them as rookies, said while it may be their first Nascar start they are some of the best road course racers in the world and actually have far more experience than he does at that style of racing, Went on to say he had a long chat with Will Brown about how he goes about preparing for a race weekend in Supercars and what he could learn from him and use to improve his own driving and preparation.

It’s almost like NASCAR is trying to piss off their past fan base. Jimmy playing at Woodstock was a classic especially when you know the time and history of it being played to wake everyone up.

Being in boycott mode and not watching like I used to, I missed it. But I just saw it on video and agree, pretty dis-respectful.

Some of the looks the drivers gave were interesting.

Chicago this weekend, SVG trying to defend his cup win from last year and going for his 3rd road/street win on the trot in xfinity. Would be 4 other than Hill's Texas move.
Hallie Degan has been dropped by her team for this weekend and replaced by Lagano. Should give an indication of how competitive the car is but the xfinity field is super strong this weekend so even running top 10 will be tough for Joey.
I have been following Degan a bit this year and have to say I think she has under performed. As often as not on the ovals she has been quicker in practice and qualifying than SVG but just doesnt move forward in the race. Only has two top 15 finished for the year, SVG has 10. I know she doesnt have a lot of oval experience, but she has significantly more than SVG.
She can certainly drive, developed her brand to get sponsors on board which is a big part of getting a full time drive so has earnt her seat but isnt showing anything on track other than she is there to make up the numbers.
