Last night was grilled venison tenderloin and mashed potatoes covered in a mushroom - onion wine reduction sauce.

after working all day loading our camper and truck in preparation for heading to South Dakota in the morning .... my wife has gone to pickup a few last minute items ... one of which is Chinese takeout for tonight ....

Roast lamb and veggies last night, one of my lambs from the farm, honey glazed carrots from the garden with the honey out of my hives, Last of my potatoes so will need a bigger planting next season, My winter vegetables have come in yet so they were from the store and need to find a new pumpkin patch as the one in the field some of the sheep discovered. They left the plants alone but ate the ripe pumpkins before I harvested.

Well, we went back home and decorated the graves. I used to go down on Memorial Day for the services at the
cemetery, but now I am part of the rifle squad with the local VFW so I will spend the first part of the day with
that. We will visit 13 suburban and rural cemeteries and do a full service at each. We start out at 8 AM and will
finish with beer and sandwiches about 2 PM. We publish a schedule and there will be a crowd at each waiting for
us. This may be my last year. I'm getting to be a dinosaur.

Down home I visited the grave of each vet that I had known and placed a penny on the tombstone or each as a
sign that I had visited. That's an old tradition.

Now a Hamm's and BBQd chicken for supper.

Smoked a pork butt all night Saturday night and pulled it off about noon yesterday. It sure was good with a pot of BRM's favorite beans

It sounds great and the best is self produced.

A real feeling of achievement and satisfaction sitting down to a meal where you are personally responsible for the food on your plate.
I think most hunters and fishermen get a similar feeling of achievement sitting down to a meal where they have hunted and prepared the what is on the plate.
Winter arrived for us yesterday it was wet windy and cold. Didnt go to the farm and poked about home getting a few jobs done, perfect weather for some slow cooked lamb shanks. 6hrs had the meat falling off the bone.


With the rising cost off everything have been eating more lamb the last few months, similar price to beef but it is far easier to kill and butcher a 100lb lamb than a 1000lb steer.

While we were doing the Memorial Day Services there was a break midway for sandwiches, and then
when we were done more sandwiches and beer. I seldom drink during the day, but I did enjoy a beer
with them. Then home and I had a Hamm's while waiting supper. Supper was pork ribs over Saur Kraut
slowly roasted and the BBQ sauce basted on just before serving. It's one of my favorite meals. Another
Hamm's with supper. BURP!
Later on a martini and strawberry shortcake.

It was a good day and I slept very well.
