Re: Rats! More Icy Weather Ahead
It was -2 F this morning when I took the dog out. It's par for the course around here. The last several years have had very mild winters around here. This year is more like normal.
Although I don't like being behind someone who doesn't have all wheel or 4 wheel drive and goes 10 mph uphill, around corners and downhill. I can see people in the south being not used to winter driving, but it happens to a greater or lesser degree here every year. Be prepared!!!
I feel bad for all the southerners dealing with ice and snow. I saw a video of a fellow clearing the ice off his path with a walk behind rototiller. Very ingenious.

Re: Rats! More Icy Weather Ahead
a new winter storm is following our recent ice storm .... it is expected to start 11:00 PM this evening, Friday, Jan 30 and move out around 7:00 AM on Sunday, Feb 1st .... while here they say we will accumulate 4 to 8" of snow .... with day temps at or below freezing and night temps in the low teens with Sunday night dropping to 8 degrees, history says our roads will be a mess for most if not all of the coming week .... it would be a pretty safe bet that our schools will be closed one to two weeks .... the only good news I've heard is they don't anticipate large power outages like the ones we are still recovering from ....

The snow here has been very manageable for the last three years. The first half winter and the second I had snow drifts up to the eaves of the garage.
On February 14th I will have been here four years.

daytime Dave is correct about Southerners being unaccustomed to winter weather driving and for that fact, I find it wise to just stay home when at all possible if there is snow or ice on the roads.
That said, even in good weather, South Carolina drivers sometime seem confused. Apparently, many do not think the use of turn signals is a good thing.

Very true here as well. I don't think these drivers want to give up the hand that's holding their phone to turn on the blinker.HenryFan wrote: βSat Jan 31, 2026 9:59 amdaytime Dave is correct about Southerners being unaccustomed to winter weather driving and for that fact, I find it wise to just stay home when at all possible if there is snow or ice on the roads.

Re: Rats! More Icy Weather Ahead
You both could be right. I see many who use a signal don't turn it on until they are actually turning.markiver54 wrote: βSat Jan 31, 2026 10:09 amVery true here as well. I don't think these drivers want to give up the hand that's holding their phone to turn on the blinker.![]()

All too common here as well. Here there is a 100ft law before turning or changing lanes.Ernie wrote: βSat Jan 31, 2026 12:04 pmYou both could be right. It's all those people who moved here from out of state. That's my story, I'm sticking to it.

Re: Rats! More Icy Weather Ahead
Yesterday, it snowed most all day. Not continuously but heavy at times (at least what seems heavy to South Carolina) and we got at least a couple inches of snow accumulation, probably more. 13 degrees this morning and a predicted high of 35 with a windchill factor in the single digits.
Tomorrow is predicted to be as cold in the morning as today.
It affected SWMBO. Yesterday she stared through the window for hours. It broke my heart and finally, I got up and let her inside.
