That really is a great image, RR. It could be a magazine cover. The editing filter you used on it is perfect. And it does give it the feeling of a painting.
Are you and Badger still herding cattle? You gave us some fine photos of that, too. I've been watching a Canadian TV Series called Heartland for the past few months and have become obsessed with horses ever since. Hope 'ol Badger is healthy and doing well.

Re: Where is RanchRoper?
Badger, Dakota and Houston are all doing well in their mid-20’s and retired from active duty. Still ride but not as much cattle work. Horses can’t do the 14 hour days on those big slopes anymore. So I just wound the clock back a little further and took up black powder. Still gets me outdoors more than indoors and satisfies my need to connect to a simpler time.

Re: Where is RanchRoper?
While not intentional, this stuff might actually better prepare one for a SHTF scenario.

Admire your dedication to the time frame. Im sure it helps having someone else involved as much as you are close by. Nothing like that here. There is some but they only shoot every 2 weeks and it doesnt always work out for me. Have a younger man who is a local firefighter and a Lieutenant on the city fire dept. Hes pretty busy so doesnt get out much. Not many old guys around who like to shoot.

Re: Where is RanchRoper?
Yes our AMM only has 2 members but my buddy doesn’t do the whole camping deal too much so I am out there keeping 1820 alive by myself mostly. But that’s ok. I enjoy the solitude and the grizzlies have taught me to sleep with one eye open, another handy skill to possess.

Re: Where is RanchRoper?
Shot this morning, flintlock, lots of steel gongs rung at 50 and 75 yds. 70 grains Schuetzen 3fg, .480 ball with an .010 patch. Made lots of smoke
Might camp next weekend, nights are down in the 20's now but hot coffee & meat on the fire tastes pretty good this time of year.

Yep the $2 would get me a small gas station coffee. But I am pretty sure your shooting skill would win you a pretty fat turkey.RanchRoper wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2024 7:34 amHaha, my shooting skill and $2 will get you a cup of coffee.

Re: Where is RanchRoper?
Grizzlies are no fun when up close. Our friend down southeast of Pincher showed me a photo his neighbor allegedly took. If you didn’t already have a healthy respect for G-Bears, this pic will do it for ya!RanchRoper wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 7:23 pmI enjoy the solitude and the grizzlies have taught me to sleep with one eye open, another handy skill to possess.

Re: Where is RanchRoper?
I was told a story (don't know if it's true or not) of a guy that was charged by a large grizzly, he was carrying a large caliber handgun and shot it center mass 5 times but it kept coming. He fired his last shot and hit it between the eyes which stunned and stopped it. When they dressed out the grizzly they found that he had hit it in the heart 2 or 3 times so it was dying but probably would have killed the guy first if not for that last shot.

Re: Where is RanchRoper?
The grizzly has such a massive circulatory system that you may have hit it with a kill shot but it keeps coming like a freight train anyway. I've seen them many times over the years when horseback in the mountains. Be aware and cautious in grizz country or end up bear crap.
Did some shooting with the flintlock this morning, had a great time ringing steel at 50 and 75 yds. Might do some camping next weekend, speaking of grizz country...
