John Sandford / Lucas Davenport fans..

Post by BrokenolMarine » Tue Apr 23, 2019 10:47 pm

The newest book in the series hit Amazon today: Neon Prey... :P

I ordered it for my Kindle.
I have read all the others, plus all the Virgil Flowers and those in the Kidd series as well. Three or four times thru.
I was halfway thru Dan Brown's sequel to "The Davinchi Code", "Angels and Demons," so I haven't started it yet. Just finished the Dan Brown. Either start the new Sandford tonight, or in the morning. :D I'm sure it will be good. Lucas is getting old, but his daughter is college age now, keeps him on his toes.
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

John Sandford is one of my favorite authors. I've read all his books and always read his next as soon as I get it. He writes about the area
in Minnesota that I live in and that makes it more fun. I understand he no longer lives here in cold Midwest. He used to appear on
radio talk shows locally and he was quite entertaining.

My favorite one was where his wife backed through the garage door because it didn't open fast enough. She claimed it was because there
was an electrical brown out that caused it to work slower than normal. Sounds like something my Wife would claim.

My fav was when Letty, his adopted daughter shot the home invaders with his target .45. She was calm cool and collected, proving that she should be his "real" daughter. Not the first time she had to shoot someone to protect herself or others... it's how Lucas met her when she had to shoot a crooked cop who had killed her mom and several others. My favorite thing about Sandford is how real he fleshes out his characters so you come to "know" them.

Exactly! When he writes about Minnesota the locations are pretty near real. His real name is John Camp and he wrote for the newspaper here,
and got a Pulitzer Prize.

If they ever made a movie about Virgil Flowers I think the blond haired hippy from NCIS Los Angeles would be the perfect actor for it.

.
Maybe. I got impression from the books though that Virgil was a little older and bulkier built.

They did make one TV movie on one of his books with Mark Harmon playing Davenport, but he didn't look the part for me. Lucas was large and dark.

Started the book and he hooks you right up front. Old favorites from the US Marshalls are back.

Gotta get it. Looking forward to it now.

BTW, spent twenty years living in the Leesburg area and hunting the Blue Ridge. Loved it there.

Don't worry, won't post any spoilers... What happens is....
Just kidding.

I'm done, it's a great read. I guess it's time to re-read ALL the Sandford series. That should take a few weeks. With the Prey series (Davenport) 29 books; The Virgil Flowers series, 11 books; and Kidd's four book series... I have forty-four to knock out. The good thing is all the characters weave in and out of each others series. Flowers and Kidd were introduced in the Prey series and spun off, but Lucas still visits in their books as well.

Knocked out the first two books in the Prey series already... Rules, and Shadow. It's like revisiting old friends when characters you remember pop up. It is easy for me to get the reading done, pain keeps me awake late... ;) ... Reading won't disturb miss T. :) Eyes is the next book in the Prey series. 8-)

Just about done with the new Sandford book. Not his best work in my opinion which is only that. I got bored with all the minutia that he wrote in.
Lots of wordy descriptions of places and folks. Usually there's more action.
