2019 NCAA Basketball -- "The Big Dance"

So very, very close for UCF! Just finished watching the last 9 seconds of the game, and Duke held on to win by a single, lonely point. What a basketball game.

Now that would have been a huge upset....

that it was .... I believe that my wife jumping up and down in our camper probably caused the vibrations that kept the last 2 shots for UCF to bounce of the rim ...

Yeah, I get that. My daughter's shout at the buzzer sounded like a sonic boom had just happened in her room!

I have said since I watched the game and say it still today.. the 1988 Championship Game of Danny Manning was the single most dominant performance in a Final I have ever seen. Ever. And I've seen Jabbar, Walton, Jordan, and others play. Simply singularly spectacular.

This year I think Virginia, Florida State, and Tennessee are the teams to watch since the Wofford Terriers are gone.

Yup, Chef, the 1988 final was something to watch. Danny Manning was the go-to man, and Chris Piper also gave a stellar performance during that game.

I met Manning at a Lawrence restaurant one evening. My daughter was with me and my wife, and my daughter knew Danny from her dental office. The dentists there took care of all KU teams' dental health. Anyway, I'm 6'2" tall, and felt like a pipsqueak standing next to him. Don't very often have to look up!

The one stat that is easy to remember from that championship season, is that the KU Jayhawks hold the record as "a tourney championship team with the most losses during a season."

Anything can happen at "The Big Dance."

OR versus UIC --- what a see-saw,exciting game! After quite a dry spell (definitely hard for real-life ducks), the Ducks took over in the second half with treys and several Alley-oop shots. The Ducks point guard played an excellent game from behind the 3-point line. Lots of great b-ball playing one more time.

So after this 73-54 win, next stop for OR is Louisville, KY for their game in the Sweet 16.

Looking forward to more "dancing" this evening. This next round will fill the Men's Elite Eight brackets. I plan to definitely watch the #11-seed Oregon Ducks take on #1-seed Virginia. Should be a noisy, hard-fought game.

An aside from the men's competition. Just finished watching an exciting upset in the NCAA Women's Tourney. What a lot of quality basketball was played by Missouri State and Iowa State in the 2nd round, Chicago Region.

Another upset. Missouri State (#11) took out Iowa State (#3) with final score of 69-60. Since I'm a Missourian, it was a fun game to watch, even though I worked at ISU years ago. So next view of Missouri State ladies will be in the Sweet 16.

Oh well .... unfortunately, Florida State played like Florida State .... their exit pretty much scuttles an all ACC finals
