Weekend at the range

Spent all weekend at the range with the kids for the annual shoot organised through one of the Aussie shooting forums.
Great weekend as always with the chance to catch up and meet other members. Plenty of opportunity to play with their toys and show off your own.

There are quite a few matches organised over the weekend to reflect hunting situations. They have a club 5000 event for big game rifles that generate more than 5000ft/lbs of muzzle energy and a buff buster for those that fall just short and 45cal and up BP guns.
Match is fairly simple with 4 shots at a buffalo target at 50m in 1min and then 3 x 2 shots in 6 seconds.
The next match is the deer stopper event, anything 6mm and up 3 shots in 30sec at 100 supported, 2 shots from the week side in the same time. 5 shots unsupported in 1min, then 3x 2 shots in 5 seconds at 50m.
Last match for the Saturday on the main range was 200m varmint shoot, 5 shots on a rabbit target at 200m any rifle.

Son used his Zastava 375H&H for all 3 matches, won the Buff buster and deer stopper and very nearly took out 3rd in the varmint shoot with it.

While all of this was happening on the main range it was also open to general shooting, at the same time a 50m running boar range was open and their was the chance to shoot a few rounds of 5 stand shotgun.

The main range on the Sunday hosted the clunker event, any old military rifle with open sights, 10 shots offhand at 50m in the time it takes for the organiser to fire 10 from his old Snider. Next match was the 200m rimfire event, 10 shots at 200m with any rimfire rifle. The finally event was the 300m varmint shoot, 5 shots at 300m.

Daughter used my little sako quad in HMR to claim second in the rimfire match and son used my 240wby for a 3rd in the 300m varmint event.
There was everything from 17HM2 rimfires up to 2" BP cannons present and a walk along the firing line would see you with the opportunity to fire just about anything you can own in Aus. Daughter had a bit of a play with some of the black powder guns, very excited that the first shot she had from a 45cal rolling block went into the X ring at 100m and she was on target with the canon as well.

Being one of the first handful of 327FM into Aus my BBS generated plenty of interest with lots of shooters over the weekend. I think in the end it fired nearly 300 rounds.

Getting together and shooting with friends is always a great way to spend time. Congratulate your son for me. I miss shooting competitions, I did it for years, but ... the demands on my time changed ... and I could always shoot on my home range with friends.

I intended to take a few pictures over the weekend but was having to much fun shooting and watching others I clean forgot.
I have stolen this one from the post shoot discussion thread.
It is some of the trophy and medal winners along with the canon that makes an appearance every year. Think it fired about 30 times over the weekend.

Another weekend shooting report! Love it. Glad to see folks getting out to shoot so much. Our weekend was a no shooting weekend, unfortunately, thanks to a record setting heat wave.
