I've known a few people that were through the years and a friend of mine joined once, but that's as close as I got.

It's the oldest fraternal organization. It makes me laugh when I hear"the Shriners are a good group, but I don't know about those Masons" You have to be a Master Mason and turn in a petition with references to be a Shriner. A great many of the founding fathers were Masons. The Boston Tea Party was done by mostly Masons. A system of morality ,veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols. No atheist can be a Mason.

Yes, I am a Mason. My blue lodge is Stockbridge Lodge #691, Stockbridge Georgia. I received my 25 year pin in 2008. My dad was a Mason, I basically grew up in the lodge.

It's always good to meet a traveling man. I have been lodge instructor for 20 years have coached several W.M.'s and one D.D.G.M. It's a good way to get to know all the new brothers.

Travlin, thank you for taking the time to bring new members up to speed. Unfortunately for my Lodge, most of the brothers are getting up in age. We have far too few younger men asking to be admitted.

Brother JWC, your Lodge should try an open house for those in the community who are curious about the fraternity. Make sure it is advertised well in advance, news papers, and other media, and have it on a Saturday . Serve light refreshments and have some very knowledgeable brothers in attendance to answer ?? Also whenever you have a degree or other noteworthy occasion, get it in the local news. Our Lodge does Bikes For Books at the local elementary school every year.

My old neighbor was a Mason. He gave me several book on the subject, very interesting. When he moved he stopped by to say goodbye and gave me a bottle of VSOP. Sorry he moved. He was a very knowable man.
