Aguila Colibri .22 LR Subsonic Rimfire Ammunition

I just bought 500 rounds of this ammo to manage close range backyard issues, like ground hogs:

It's a low weight bullet, a very low pressure 22 LR, and apparently very quiet, not using any powder. I'll report when I can.

I've used this quite a bit. I have used in revolvers, pistols, and especially rifles. Works well on small vermin. It's incredibly quiet from a rifle. It'll bark from a pistol/revolver.

However, when my suppressors arrive, I probably won't use it as much. No complaints on my end though.

Plus one on being very quiet. Out of a rifle, not any louder than one of our spring piston air rifles. Also, I prefer Colibri 22 LR to using CB Shorts because it doesn't leave a crud ring in the chamber.

i found it too wimpy to be of use for anything beyond trench warfare with moles.............

I still have some so I will revisit it with an open mind though......

I got a 1,000 rounds when I found some years ago. I agree with Henry 88. It's pretty feeble. I'm not sure if it would work well on a chuck, but I never tried.
A rule of thumb with it's report is barrel length. As the others above have said. The longer the barrel, the quieter it gets. Just be careful not to go too long. They may not leave the barrel. I've had great success out of my Henry H001 with cycling and accuracy.

Good luck against the chucks. They are very active around here now.

Ive also used it on some pests in my backyard without much luck. I think a pellet rifle in 22 cal would be a better choice. Al

We're having heavy rain this evening with temps in the high 40's, so with all of my neighbors indoors and all of their windows closed, I stepped out onto my deck and shot two rounds from my 1930s single shot, bolt action Ranger rifle. I couldn't hear it. It actually made no noise at all. The first shot was just aimed into the ground, a sloped bank in the backyard. I took out the bolt to see if there was a bullet stuck in the barrel. Nope. So, I took another shot at a piece of pine wood at the end of the deck, about twenty feet away. The bullet bounced off.

I may just use the ammo for target shooting in my basement. If and when I do, I'll report back. I won't even consider using it for pest control.

I don't think any of us will live to shoot all the rimfire we've hoarded, but count on having some of that stuff being around till the end.

One point I would like to make, as someone who shoots .22s in his yard and has neighbors is this.

My neighbors know I shoot. I keep it to standard velocities 95% of the time to minimize the noise, not to conceal the fact I am shooting.

I say this because when you're shooting Quiets, or even primer only Colibri, you're still operating with a firearm, and the LEO that may respond may deal with the situation in that way. I agree with Big Al about the pellet gun, though I personally never shot an animal with one.

Agreed. It won't be used in my neighborhood again, regardless of it's remarkable silence. It certainly isn't a solution for groundhogs, anyway; but then neither is my 700 fps .177 pellet gun. A cage trap is likely my best option for them.
