Trigger Finger

for the last few weeks I've had a problem with the knuckle joint of the first finger on my left hand .... I've had arthritis in both hands for a while and this problem was different .... sharp pain when I needed to make anything close to a fist with my left hand and when I'd try to do something like hold a coffee cup .... also at times that joint would lock up and I'd have to straighten it with my right hand .... it finally got to the point I had to schedule an appointment with our family doctor .... after a quick examination he told me the problem was with my trigger finger .... when I asked how that could be because I'm right handed and my trigger finger on my right hand was just fine .. .. OK I quickly discovered he was talking about a medical condition not my trigger finger .... he said I needed two injections in the left first finger knuckle .... the first was with a small needle to deaden the joint so he could inject some sort of steroid with a considerably larger needle .... happy to say that in the 24 hours since there isn't anywhere near as much pain

Most people would say index finger if talking about the finger. At any rate glad it’s working.

I don't know if they're legal in your state but my hands were all crippled up so that I couldn't even sign my name anymore and a friend told me about CBDs. I was very skeptical, but I tried them and they worked. I can now move my fingers without much pain at all.
I take one a day is all and the only effect I feel is the relief of pain in my hands and actually my knees as well.
All they are is a anti inflammatory.

You have to take them for a few days to feel the relief but if I quit one day, it all comes back.

I had same issue several years ago with my lefthand ring finger as it would not bend at the joint and would lock up at knuckle joint. A trip to the doc for a shot fixed that quickly and so far so good. Now last year my left thumb had same type issue but was painful. I was ready to see the Doc again but tried something. I cut out all sweets to cut back on sugar and within 2 weeks it fixed itself. Being a lefty it is great to be able to cock the hammer on my SA revolvers again!!

I have a problem with the ring finger on my left hand, it will not straighten out and is bent so the finger touch’s the palm. It will only straighten out when I use my right hand to straighten it. It is a real problem because I’m left handed. Makes it hard to write, grip, open a jar and hold the morning cup of coffee. Have an appointment tomorrow to see the doc.

I knew a guy from playing pool that had Dupuytren's contracture. His fingers were curled and he could only straighten them if he used his other hand to do it. Had a big bump in his palm that looked like his muscles or tendons were all tightened up, but he couldn't relax it. He eventually got surgery to address it, and it got better, but was still there to a lesser degree.
There were TV commercials about this, with John Elway on them. apparently he was a sufferer too.

Went to the big city and the doc diagnosed my hand problem as Dupuytren's Contracture, have to make an appointment with a specialist.

The inflammation gained from heavily processed carbs, sugars, and other things that rapidly convert to glucose is crazy.

the good news is, at least for now, the injection covered in the first post in this thread, has cured the trigger finger .... the not so good news is the same trigger problem surfaced in the middle finger on my left hand .... I'm so pleased with how the shot took care of the first one, I didn't hesitate schedule a treatment for the second one .... sure do hope it works just as well

I have this condition with my left thumb it comes and goes. But hasn’t flared up in a few months. Sure is startling when it locks up painful but tolerable. I was at an Ortho Carolina clinic for a VA evaluation for radiculopathy (nerve pain) the PA was checking my fingers when he flicked my thumb back. It locked and hurt like the dickens that time, Oops sorry! Then he tried telling me that the nerve pain I have dealt with for years was more likely just arthritis. I asked him if he had seen my cervical X-rays and MRI results. He had not, after he did he said it could possibly be nerve pain. I don't go to community care appointments through the VA now just VA facilities.

My left hand middle finger curls up and is bothersome. Not so much painful as bothersome. If a prostate biopsy is a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10, this finger problem is maybe a .2 on a scale of 1 to 10. I can compare both.

A couple of weeks ago, I had my semi-annual physical and my primary care physician referred me to a specialist doctor (orthopedics ?) for a steroid shot. The appointment is Friday morning of next week and I hope I have a good outcome as some of you folks did.

Fingers crossed. Well most fingers but one.

Just remember that there is a limit to how many of those shots you can have without bone deterioration. Most of them are good for about three weeks. Don't over do just because you feel better. I have had a few over the years mostly in the elbows when I was doing a lot of framing and swinging the big hammer.
