Yeah this is a rant.

If it ain't thunder and lightening and rain, it's 100+ with high humidity. I'm gettin' too old for this. I've been wanting to get outside and exercise my 1911's and other guns for weeks, and it will probably be late Sept. before I can do that and not invite a stroke.

Kinda the same here Gunny. Been the wettest August on record and really hot and humid as well.

Well, June was a really wet one here, but we were in SC for most of that.
Then we got home the first of July, rains ceased and the heat began.
August has been a touch better, but not by much. Looks like a break is coming as the weekend get here, and I did notice that one day first of the week the predicted is only 78. Which could change.
If been doing a little shooting, but it's been early of the mornings.

My neighbor rides 600 pedals on her stationary bike everyday or she doesn’t go to bed. She just turned 100.

Move the the INLAND Pacific Northwest. I describe our weather as benign. Not too hot, not too cold, not too wet, (okay it does get too dry), not too snowy, no tornadoes hurricanes or other devastating storms. Yep pretty benign.

What’s humidity?

PSA: stay away from Washington, Oregon and California. Idaho and Montana are paradise.

North eastern Tennessee ain't bad either. I lived there for a short while after getting married back in the late 70s. We didn't like it much at the time, but look back on it more and more fondly as the years go by. If I were younger, I might look into moving back there.

Mostly rural with a few relatively large cities within an hour or two drive. Mild summers with some snow and ice in the winters, but nothing extreme like more northerly climes. No state income tax and decent people for the most part. Cost of living was low, but wages were as well. Not sure what the economic climate is there these days. I assume my retirement would probably go a little further there than here in coastal SC, although having my house paid off insulates me from much of the cost of living issues.

One huge issue we are having here right now is a HUGE influx of people from other areas, mostly the northeast. This is causing a lot of infrastructure issues, with big traffic problems, and construction of new homes and apartments proceeding at a breakneck pace. This has increased the cost of living, and has changed the culture. Drivers used to be fairly laid back and courteous decades ago. Now it's more like a scene from Mad Max on the roads. All the politicians were crying doom and gloom when the Navy Base closed in the 90s. They decided to attract actual businesses, and were very successful, although there success was likely due more to the attributes of the area than the efforts of the politicians. Now we have out of control growth. I'm too old to be thinking about moving.

Much the same here in Western North Carolina. It has changed so much since I arrived here in 1995. Way too much growth, much too quickly. It's a shame. Out of control growth, as you say.

Western NC is very much the same landscape as the area I was in across the border in Tenn. I've no idea if this type of growth has occurred in the Johnson City area.

Well, it was in the low 70's went I got out today. I would like to go to the range. But, it is cloudy; and, my plate is full. Even so, I picked up a box of ammo yesterday. The sun is coming one day.

Heard on the news the other day that the median price of a home in Washington State has increased $140k and the median price in Idaho has increased $280k. That’s pretty telling right there, lots of big bucks have streamed into Idaho since the Floyd riots and the Covid shutdowns. (Idaho stayed open)

I remember here in Eastern Washington State in the 1990 - 2000’s experiencing the same price jumps. Lots of folks moved here from bigger cities from up and down the west coast and our real estate went nuts.

I just got back from being in Las Vegas for 13 days. It was over 105 every day, some over 110, but it got down into the low 90s at night. When actually walking around, you could feel that heat right away as you left whatever building you were in. There were lots of businesses along the strip that had these misters working with fans that just blew out over their patios, walkways, and even the sidewalks along Las Vegas Boulevard. They do make it feel cooler there.
That comment you hear about "it's a dry heat" does hold water though, and the lack of humidity does make that heat much more bearable.
