Peak hp tune on pump gas is 400, 349lbft of torque at the wheels.

We played it pretty conservative, the limiting factor is the stock clutch and transmission.

Daily tune is 357 awhp and 350 awlbft of torque

Subaru outback best snow car we have had. We have owned jeeps (all models) rams, ford trucks and cars Subaru outperformed all.

I owned FIVE Subaru Wagons and they all performed excellent in the snow. The 1980 was a 4wd, and the rest were AWD models. I would have continued in the Forester line but... (Always a But, isn't there?) The last one we bought, and set up for Miss Tina, they had changed the interior, and not for the better. The seat quality was greatly reduced, and the footwells were smaller. I couldn't ride in the car due to the lack of flexibility in my right leg. I told her to keep it, and use it for her running around town. We always took the Titan on trips anyway. She traded it away anyway. She didn't want to keep a car we both couldn't use.

I think they had lowered the quality of the Forester interior to keep that entry level pricing down, and to push people looking for better seating, and extras into the Outback line. That first Subaru Wagon had an actual lever between the seats, manual engagement of the 4wd. I really liked that little wagon, put 200k miles on it before I got rid of it.

By that point, I was in trucks, and once we went back to trucks we have stayed with them. Easier in and out, better suited to OUR lifestyle. I would love to have a sportscar on the side, but can't justify the expense. Plus, I'd have a hard time getting OUT of anything low slung.

I owned one, too. Bright red and a few years newer than yours. It was my wife's leased car at first; afterward we bought it and for a few years it became my ride. We both loved driving that thing. Of course, we were in our mid-thirties then and in great shape. I wouldn't even consider driving one now. Since then I've had spinal fusion surgery (didn't help at all), hip replacement surgery (glad I did it), the curse of arthritis, and memories of a body that was once flexible and a car that was really fast... if not the worst damned car you could ever have in a snow storm.

Mine came from the factory with a Whale Tale Spoiler, factory Tinted Windows, Louvers, and special wheels. I didn't actually love the color, but it was a "Rice Rocket." I was in my early 20s, had just re-enlisted in the Corps for my second tour, and my bonus helped buy the car. I was stationed on the North Carolina Coast so snow wasn't a problem.

I drove the car for about a year and a half, then traded it for a Mazda 626 when I started to date a gal with two kids. The RX7 had NO back seat so no room for the kiddies. I missed it, but the kids were great and I sacrificed for them. I drove the RX7 hard, but never got a ticket and didn't do stupid things in the car. I did corner hard, and did take a trip thru Skyline Drive before I traded it in. What a rush.
