Field and Stream article Flintlock Deer Season.
I saw this online and thought about our friend Ranch Roper. Some beautiful gear in the article but the page does have a number of ads to scroll past to see and read it all.

I've seen a story about this season on television. It seems like a real cool thing.

Some gorgeous flinchlocks in that article.
Re: Field and Stream article Flintlock Deer Season.
I remember being a kid and going to the Kutztown Folk Festival with my family. It's a really big event in the Pennsylvania Dutch country, with a lot of things done as they were in older times. They had a bunch of daily events that were quite outside the norm for a kid from the suburbs. One of the exhibits was a gunsmith that was making rifles. As a sub-teenage kid, I didn't really appreciate what went into making a flintlock, which is what all the rifles were. I was fascinated with how they could rifle a barrel, and asked a couple questions about that, but either I wasn't specific enough with my questions, or I just got the "little kid answers".
Years later some guys I shot trap with were talking about the gunsmith at that fair, and how he was a pretty well known crafter of flintlocks, and his rifles were very expensive. Wish I paid more attention back then.
