Who the heck let the dogs out????

Post by fortyshooter » Sat Jan 18, 2025 12:30 pm

Had one of my trail cams setup along my creek and it was a shock to see what appeared to be The Great Dog Race of 2024!!
After talking to my neighbor up the road he was coming along the road and noticed a hunter's truck with dog cages and a guy standing there with a shotgun. He told the guy no hunting/dog running on these properties and the guy said I am not hunting but waiting for the dogs to return...yeah right!
Story goes a local hunt club had let the dogs loose on a road back up behind mine and another neighbors property and the dogs picked up the deer scent on other side of road and they ended up charging thru his and my property.
First time I had seen anything like this of this scale and will be putting up more signs along the road. It is now against the local law to run dogs without permission on another property owners land. Video here https://youtu.be/twgq3b3OzuI?si=ul8I7V3nbDxMnhK-

Can the Virginia Wildlife/DNR address the matter? I think in South Carolina it is against state law to drive dogs on another person's property without that person's permission but I am not entirely sure of that.

Might be worth a call to ask.

Here in Minnesota dogs can be shot on sight in the rural areas. A few years back we had a pack of dogs attack and kill someone's horse. On top of that we have sheep farmers just south of us and they have large care taker dogs with the sheep at all times.
It can be serious business.

I would get into that subject, but it would turn political really quickly.
I'll send you a pm.

That was sure a lot of dogs. Not hunting dogs, but neighbor's dogs keep coming over to my land like they owned it and yeah causing trouble. My neighbor was a great guy but his "wife's dogs" could do no wrong. He knew I didn't like it, but one day I had enough and confronted him on it. He took the dogs side (his wife's really). That killed the relationship and we haven't spoke for over 3 years now. Strange as we were great friends before the confrontation and strange again, my other neighbor and I are great friends and it's his cousin, lol.

Forgot to add:

The dogs are no longer a problem, since that day. But if he was smart, he would had controlled them before or at the time of the confrontation, not after.
