Yesterday, I had the privilege of watching a triple header in the Historic Flemming baseball stadium in Wilson, NC. It was a two day tournament for 16 and under boys. I did not know about the stadium history until I walked in and saw the age and designed of it. It was built in 1930 or so. It is showing its age but like a beautiful life showing a life well lived. It has stood through a war, a depression, and the decline of the minor league system that is so much part of baseball's past.It probably could seat a couple thousand. The field was immaculate with a green infield and groomed like it was a MLB stadium. Most of the boys have never played on grass that cared for.
As you can guess, there is a tremendous amount of history with that stadium. And you can get a glimpse of the past because the North Carolina Baseball Museum is located there. In a word...Awesome!!!! While it emphasis NC players ( you could field three or four All Star teams from players who played in the minors there) it has a great collection of memorabilia from 1900 on. Everything from signed bats, balls, uniforms, etc. from every era. As you can tell, I was very impressed. Price is steep,1 dollar. If you are ever in the area, and love baseball. Visit but call for hours.
Site seems to be OK. Load issue should be resolved now.
