My new shooting accessory

Post by GunnyGene » Sun May 12, 2024 4:55 pm

Not too uncomfortable, but it does mess up my grip big time. Been having some trouble with my wrist and thumb lately so got this to wear as needed. Basically immobilizes my hand. Not looking for sympathy, just thought it might be of interest to others who have a similar problem.
Had to work the camera with my left hand so please forgive the out of focus.

Hope that does the trick for you. Yeah, I could see how it would need a work around to shoot handguns. Best of luck.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

I hope that it helps you. I used to wear something very similar on one or sometimes both hands overnight because of too much wear and tear on the wrists from swinging a big framing hammer. Because I am ambidextrous I could make both wrists hurt.

This thing has a couple strips of aluminum in pockets on the palm side to provide rigidity for wrist and thumb. I doubt that I'll wear it while shooting, since pistol recoil would likely wear holes in it in short order. It's also impossible to use the manual safety or slide lock on 1911's or similar guns with my right thumb, and the bulk of it makes it difficult to even reach the trigger on a Glock or other double stack pistol with fat grips. Can't get a good grip on my Blackhawk (Hogue grips) at all. I might be reduced to just pointing a finger and yelling "BANG". :x

I can get a reasonable grip on a small frame revolver tho. Tried it out with my S&W 60-10 dry firing and seemed ok, but likely only with .38spc. .357mag would probably be uncontrollable. Ruger 10/22, and my BBSC feel acceptable.

You could pretend you have a silencer and not even yell bang.

My arthritis has been very active with all the rain and cooler weather...
... I have limited myself to the heavier handguns and lighter recoiling loads for the most part. My Blackhawk .357 with 158 grain lead semiwadcutters is a pussycat, and very accurate.

The pain in that hand just rolling the thumb around can be fierce, but shooting those .38s in the Ruger, not a problem.
