A heartbreaker for Chris Buschner and his team too. They thought they had it. Until yesterday the record was at Darlington with Ricky Craven and Kurt Busch back in '03. In that race, the right guy won, Ricky Craven (all in my opinion, of course, lol).
Two close wins in the same week-end. The other at the Kentucky Derby.

Missed the Xfinity race today, too early in the morning down under, P15 for SVG P36 for Hallie.
Think Hallie had a flat in the 3rd stage, another impressive run by SVG given practice and qualifying were both cancelled and he had never turned a single lap at Darlington when the race started.
SVG seems to use the first 2 stages to learn the track get the car sorted and by the 3rd stage is on the pace. Looking forward to seeing how he goes when they start racing some tracks for the 2nd time. Think he will be on the pace from the start and probably a top10 contender most of the time.
Sitting 15th in points mainly as a result of not picking up stage points, would be comfortably above the cutoff if he was picking up a similar number of stage points to those around him.
Four of the top 6 in the points have over 100 stage points SVG has 11, Riley Herbst in 6th has 104, SVG is 102 points behind. On race finish points less than 10 points between them. similar when you compare him to team mate AJ in 7th, only about 10 points between them when you look at race finish points.
Stage points are hiding just how competitive SVG has been at the end of races and how regularly he is bringing the car home in a respectable finishing position.

Cam Waters cup series debut has been confirmed for Sonoma, after not having anyone form down under in Nascar for a decade and still not having anyone full time in the cup series we may have 3 supercars drivers on the grid for the Cup race at Sonoma with SVG Cam and possibly WIll Brown.

As much as I see your point, the race went over half way. In their own rules, once given a good try, that's a race. Not that I'm still a supporter of Nascar. Since they went woke, I'm still in boycott mode.

Race win for SVG in Xfinity, qualified P2 led early but pitted under green before the end of the first stage, lots of contact after that, off track excursions and kept dropping places every restart but kept passing cars to get back near the front. Managed to hold onto second after restart with 4 to go quickly passed cleanly for the lead and held onto to the finish.

Looking forward to Sonoma this weekend, SVG would have to be one of the favorites for the Xfinity win, disappointed he wont be starting the cup race but get to watch 2 Aussies make their cup debuts.
Dont think they will be able to repeat SVG's Chicago debut heroics but I think both will be genuine top 10 contenders. The weekend looks to be set up as well as they could hope to have success.
Road course which is their specialty, a track that despite never getting a win at Marcos Ambrose never finished worse than 8th in 6 seasons. Repave means there will be an extra practice session so they will get far more time to become comfortable in the car and work on setup etc than a normal cup race. 2 drivers in a similar mold to SVG that are not afraid of contact, racing hard and happy to move someone out of the way if they deserve it.
Interesting last year when Kostecki made his cup debut with RCR they did a bit of simulator work on Sonoma, within 10 laps he was over 2 sec quicker on the simulator than Kyle Busch. Throw in the success SVG has had and I think both drivers will go into the race with the belief that can win.
I dont think Nascar has ever seen that before, road ringers have been around for years but most seem to start the race thinking a top 10 finish would be a fantastic result. This weekend we will have 2 rookies starting the race who rightly or wrongly will go into the race with the belief they are fighting for a win.
