What were we thinking??? New puppy.

Post by Hatchdog » Mon Feb 19, 2024 9:08 am

My wife and I have been discussing getting a second dog for a while now. Neither of us have ever had more than one dog at a time so this is a new experience for us. We found this pup located within a days drive so decided to get him. Today is day four with a new puppy and so far all is going very well. I guess it’s nice to have a dog in the house already as most of the pups energy has been directed to him instead of to us.

He’s doing great and seems to be very intelligent. Only issue so far is the breeder free fed the pups and we’re transitioning him to meal times same as our other dog. It’s pretty hard to say no to those puppy eyes begging for some food. We named him Glen so now we have Trey and Glen.

Here’s a few pics.

Looks like Glen is fitting right in Hatch. We have two dogs. Both Cavaliers and its something we have always done. Gives them some company when we are away. Have left both of ours at home for four days last year but the neighbor was checking on them. They did great but were glad when we came home.

We fed our puppies 4 times a day. They have little stomachs and high metabolisms.

When they hit 6-9 months old we scaled back to 3 small meals a day. 7:00, 10:30 and 4:30.

We have Pugs.

Glen had his first visit to our vet yesterday and she told us to feed him more. He was a little bony but weighed in at 12 lbs. He is very happy with his food quantity increase  .

JEBar, they are Golden Retirevers. Our adult dog is 86 lbs and is a bit overweight. The new pup seems bigger than Trey was as a pup so he may end up in excess of 90.
