Radio Antenna

I need a couple indoor AM/FM radio antennas for my tube radios. Two of them have excellent ones built in but several have the connection in the back for an external antenna. Anyone familiar with antennas?

I think FM requires only a di-pole, twin, wire antenna. It can be limited in length, but longer is better. 48" between the two ends is adequate. You run the twin wire out a ways, then split them in opposite directions ideally.

As for AM, I have had good luck using light speaker wire wrapped around a brace. Take a couple pieces of lattice cut to about 18". Form them into an X. Wrap the wire around the ends of the X several times, maybe 4-6. You have to 'Tune' this by turning to receive best signal.

Yes what you said made sense. The two radios with a built-in AM antenna has what they call a loop, much like what you described. I bought this used one on ebay for $10.99 and free shipping.

The FM one you described can be found on ebay also for just a couple dollars. I've used them all my life.

I received this antenna today. It makes the difference between night and day. I put it on the worst radio and now it is the best. Well it is a two-way tie for the best. I also received a T-dipole antenna and it made another radio perfect. I still have another loop antenna and a vintage rabbit ear coming.
