World Cup Soccer 2022

Post by JEBar » Sat Dec 03, 2022 10:33 am

in college I was a PE Major ... as a general rule I enjoy playing what sports I can and watching many others that I can't .... as I sit here watch the US vs Netherlands, I'm reminded that soccer never has been and still isn't a sport that enjoy .... yes, from looking at the huge crowd that is going nuts watching the match, I realize that apparently puts me into a solid minority .... hope the US wins but right now they are behind 1 - 0 and I feel a John Wayne movie calling for my attention

They've spent millions trying to get our interest, but so far I'm not even marginally interested.

What’s this soccer thing you’re talking about. J/K of course but it’s something I’ve never been interested in. My wife just said turn the match on so I did only to find halftime and USA down 2-0. :(

Im a bit the same, love playing or watching most sports, soccer scholarships put both my brother and sister in law through school. I can appreciate the skill and dedication needed but it isnt a sport I will go out of my way to watch.
Have followed the results from the WC but haven't actually watched a game. Timing hasnt helped with all of Australia's games having started at 2am local time. Soccer certainly wont get me out of bed at that time to watch. Up at 5am this morning and waiting for kick off to see what the Aussies can do against Argentina although more a case of I up and it is on so I will watch than anything else.

Shame USA lost a win would have seen them on course to play the winner of Australia/Argentina in the final 8. Would have been kind of ironic to see 2 countries where soccer is barely a blip on the sporting radar playing.

Makes you wonder what sort of teams both countries could actually field if soccer was more popular and had the best athletes playing. In Aus it is about the 4th most popular football code.

For a little while, womens WC is on early next year down under (Aus/NZ)
Aus has slipped in the rankings and just outside the top 10, USA is number 1 and even the Kiwis are close to the top 20.
