Wisconsin CWP

Post by Sir Henry » Fri Aug 19, 2022 10:13 am

I just completed a Wisconsin CWP form online. It was easy. Too easy as I was not required to get fingerprinted. Some states require that and if I was fingerprinted more states would honor Wisconsin.

I expect to receive it in the mail within 3 weeks.

Gene, that's interesting. I was fingerprinted and we can't carry out of the State. We don't recognize anyone else's and they don't recognize ours. I don't travel out of state anymore, so it shouldn't matter to me, but it still does.
Thanks for sharing the process there.

Get a Utah non resident permit. You have to take a certified class, get the certificate, get fingerprinted (the class usually will do this), then send it in. Renews by mail every five years, no hassles.

Get this app, it is cheap and works very well. …. https://rightapp.net/wp/ccw/

Gene, we both have our permits, but it's just in case we have to carry a woods gun if a bear problem should develop. The reason for the CWP is that you are carrying concealed if your handgun is hidden under a coat or jacket and in Wisconsin you wear a coat or jacket most of the year. :)

My wife and I both did the Utah non resident permit about 7 years ago when our Virginia Attorney General was threatening to cancel reciprocity with other states. Right after we got our Utah permits he relented on his plan. We still keep the Utah permits renewed just incase.

The WI permit will allow me to carry in all the other states I’ll be going to also. I already have a MN, AZ and WA. I will most likely let them lapse. I will be avoiding MN and IL in my travels and doubt I’ll ever return to WA although I’ll be flying through Seattle in a couple of weeks.

One great think about Wisconsin is I don’t have to travel very far to go somewhere I’ve never been.

For those with Non-Resident permits, make sure you check with each state in which you intend to carry on that permit. ;)
Some states with Reciprocity with other states ONLY recognize the Resident Permits from that state.
THIS map is very interesting... click on any state for the various information:

https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/resour ... ocity_map/

For example, the UT Non-Resident permit is not recognized by Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania, or Colorado... only the Utah resident permit.
For Oklahoma it's Florida, South Carolina, Michigan and Colorado that only recognize the Resident Permits and won't honor the Non-Resident permits.

Miss T and I are taking our CWP class next month even though our state is constitutional carry, so we will be legal OUT of State.
;)
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

If your WI permit is valid in WA they will issue you a non-resident WA permit. Your current one with the old address is not valid. It will not be free, and whether it can be done by mail is the big question.
