When it's too hot to shoot......
Yep the hot and humid all this week with "feel like" temps around 100 so not much range time this week. But another project that needs to be done...
like making up 2 air cleaner wing nuts similar to an OEM unit. Before I was using a common wing nut and washer but wanted a one piece unit.
Ha....try finding the basic automotive carb wing nut nowdays around town!!!
So it started with a piece of steel in the lathe and then on into the mill. Got to have a pair of them....dual 4 bbls. you know!

Nice job Forty. It's great when you can fabricate a needed part. You're right about carburetor wing nuts, they are scarce as hens teeth today.

Re: When it's too hot to shoot......
Those air cleaner nuts for a new filter setup I'm working on. The other deal was a larger but shorter oval air filter and the new one is 4 inch tall and not as wide. Still has 10 sq. inch more filter area and the added height smooths out the airflow into the carbs. Last pic is the filter setup from before.
The car is my 1985 Mustang LX which I have been wrenching on for 36 yrs. Built the 427 Windsor for it 11 years ago.
Yeah I make a few guns parts for myself if I can.

Re: When it's too hot to shoot......
Oh yeah... The main mission of it was to grudge race my buddy's 1970 Hemi Challenger...a clone he built up with a 511 Hemi.
I did run a 10.90 @ 131 just foolin around with it. Very soft launch with the 3.50 rear gear with the TKO-5 speed. This about 8 yrs. ago before I added the dual 660's. He later sold his Challenger. We would run right close to the same with him running at 4000 lbs. and me at 2960. His Hemi right around 650-675 HP and me 550-570 HP.

I believe the original Mustang weighed about a metric ton. The six banger had about 100 horsepower which is what it takes to propel a metric ton 100 mph so even the six could go that fast. Might take it all day to reach the speed but it could do it.

Did you have to beef up the subframe ? My uncle told me a story he stuck a 350 into a chevy vega, he goosed it and the car twisted like a pretzel lol

Re: When it's too hot to shoot......
Yes back in 1988 when I welded in tube subframe connectors. When I installed the 427 back in 2010 I added 1 1/2 square tube under the floor carpet to tie it all together and also beefed up the torque boxes where the upper and lower control arms attach. No roll cage though but it is tight now.
