I'd rather endure a cystoscopy

Post by GunnyGene » Tue Jun 08, 2021 5:47 pm

Than set uip new pc and rebuild all the (%$#@ ) stuff from the old one. I've spent the last 6hrs doing just that on the new Dell that showed up this morning, and I'll probably spend the next couple days on it. So if y'all hear me screaming you'll know why. I'm using my antique laptop for now. While I'm waiting on downloads and back ups I have this nifty bottle of Blanton's single barrel to comfort me and relieve the stress. The old PC is destined for target practice.

Been down that road myself, gunny. No fun, but you'll get there.

UNDERSTOOD .... ALL TOOOOOOO WELL UNDERSTOOD .... I bought my current one at Best Buy .... part of the deal was for them to do transfer all of the stuff I needed .... doing so delayed me from getting it for one day but it sure lowered my blood pressure

Kinda ironic. Carol has her computer Geek coming tomorrow to look at her laptop, and maybe have to build her a new one.
We don't stress over that mind bending stuff anymore. Costs more to call the guy, but, worth it IMO.

I've always built my own computers. Built my last one over 10 years ago, it was a pretty powerful computer back then.
I don't game any more so it's still going strong for my uses.

Nice thing about building your own computer is it only has what software you put on it, no Dell or other companies bloatware.

That will be the most important thing when I buy next. Computers come with soft that makes them obsolete.

If you buy a ready made computer I would think you could spend the $ on a Win 10 usb and format the HD and do a clean Win10 install. I have never done this so do it at your own risk. Other than a good internet security program and my photo software (Adobe Lightroom) all my other software is freeware, I do have an old MS Office suite that so far have managed to reinstall on my new builds.

Apparently if you have the win 10 license for your new computer you can download the install files for free.

Just bought a new Dell for my very recently graduated daughter. My tower was a monster 5 years ago - but her laptop smokes it. Got an Inspiron 5000 series with an I7 quad core 11th generation, 16 Gb memory, solid state drive. Standard video and added MS Office Pro. Nice machine. As for the added software stuff you can set it such that it doesn’t fire on boot. Half TB external drive and you can download your files while you sleep, then upload them to the new PC the next night.

Would have been well under $1K, but Office pro is pricey. She’s headed to college so she needs the productivity software. Learned a while back building your own you end up building more machine than you really need - so I gave that stuff up. Also learned if you get a Dell, buy from Dell. Pass on Best Buy - they get their cut - and you can use that money for more memory. Budget $200 per year for “electronics” - when they’re out of warranty ride them as long as you can. When they crap out take them to the range. 😁
