Were original cowboy action levers tube fed or side loaders?

The original 1860 Henry was a tube feeder, then came the side loaders

Many said the Henry wouldn’t work because you couldn’t load it on a horse.

Spencer was another tube fed, wasn’t Nelson King credited with the side gate loading and the 1866 Winchester?

As most gunfights ended in 6-10 shots, I guess reloading wasn't always an issue.
