Re: N. Mississippi deep freeze
I have one on my Mustang. Before I crank it up after it's been sitting in the 40 F garage for winter nap I preheat the engine. Saves wear on the engine and gets the intake warm for better Carb mixture function.
Re: N. Mississippi deep freeze
Carburetor’s, yes indeed. The mustang I just sold had an Eldebrock 500 CFM with an electric choke. I didn’t run it much in the winter but for those late fall/early spring runs that electric choke sure was nice. Good idea on the block heater for yours.fortyshooter wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 10:30 amI have one on my Mustang. Well, here in Northern Middle Tenn, it's 31, bit windy, ice & snow storm on the way tomorrow thru Tues.
May have to throw another dog on the bed.
BTW, Coop, I know what that cord hanging out the grill is for.
We have had temps here at -30 back in the early 60s. I've used one before.

Re: N. Mississippi deep freeze
Way back when... I had a used 1979 Ford Bronco with the 400 in it. It came out of Canada and had two block heaters on it. One winter night even tho it was parked in the garage I plugged both heaters in. Next morning I started it up, warmed up just a bit and backed out of the garage. Looked at the temp guage and the needle was already off the bottom. Probably had heat in just a few minutes.
Then I though about how much electricity I had used running both heaters overnight and decided to not do that again. Sure was nice turning on the heat a block from home.
I have one on my current gas pickup but since it’s parked in the garage I never use it. But, my diesel tractor gets plugged in regularly. You know how those diesel’s love the cold.

Our F350’s are diesel. Anything below freezing they get plugged in. Good starts and instant heat.

Re: N. Mississippi deep freeze
I just walked out to our pole barn to check on our Motor Home. I like to plug it in and keep the batteries topped off.
Anyway, it's minus 4 degrees but inside that metal barn, with no heat or insulation, it's still 10 degrees.
That surprises me as its been below zero here for more than a week.
Inside the motorhome it was 31 degrees. Still surprising.
My Father always told me that just having a roof over something made a huge difference. He was right again.
I miss him.

I store our Fifth Wheel in a storage facility that is designed for RV storage. It never sees the light of day unless we are using it. The only part of our storage that is exposed to the outside is the rear wall and roof as we are in the middle of the building. Ive often wondered what the temp gets to inside that shed and the RV. I should get a thermometer and put it inside the building. I still winterize the Fifth wheel
