Storm took out the 10 year old bird feeder last week. My tweety bird friends were in the tree singing the hungry bird song. They're All fixed up with a new chow hall. Have 4 bird houses to, never get tired of song birds.

Had gusts of over 50 mph yesterday that nearly decimated our feeders. Did some re-hanging and filling today. The feeders were full of birds almost before I got back in the house. The Blue Birds are already moving in to their homes as well.

We enjoy our feeders and feathered friends, too. We feed only in the winter, though. If we feed in the warm months, we get some of those big black furry visitors.

We get rats! It is highly discouraged here. I do plants lots of flowers that songbirds, butterflies and bees love. Of course hummingbirds love almost any flower.

Dang Starlings is what we get in the spring. They go through the suet like a buzz saw!

I feed the birds, starting on Thanksgiving day thru March. Then the migratory birds return. I hand feed my chickadee’s, they love fresh nuts, peanuts, hazelnuts and cashews. Chickadees are such a nice bird, they sound so nice and are pretty intelligent.

I had a hummingbird feeder for the most part of 30 years. In the fall I would stop filling it to encourage them to fly south and then in December start to fill it again.

During freezing weather I brought it inside at night. The problem was making sure I put it out on a regular schedule in the morning. Five minutes late and I was told about it. Once they get to know you they are not shy and will do very close flybys.

I have had the Hummers come to a feeder while holding it. Pretty cool!
That was up at the mountain cabin.

Skippy likes his corn on the cob and sunflower seeds, the blue jays like their peanuts in the shell, the juncos like thistle seeds on the ground, and the downey woodpeckers like the suet cakes with meal worms....the sparrow hawk that showed up yesterday has an eye on all of them. Our little backyard wild kingdom sure are spoiled.

I stopped feeding the birds because when we went south in the Winter I think they starved to death and I didn't want to get that started again.
I asked my neighbor to throw some seeds if I paid for them while we were gone and he blew me off. Couldn't be bothered. He doesn't work. Just lives with his parents and he's in his fifties.

In the Summer I do the hummers and boy do they fight over feeders. Mighty territorial. I've also had them get right in my face if the feeders are empty.

Speaking of birds, we had Robins in the front yard near the feeder 2 weeks ago when it was near 60 before this latest cold snap with snow. I can never remember Robins in January. I believe their normal arrival time is March as always saw it as the indicator of Spring approaching.

We also have Humming birds and one year about 15 showed up. We hang the feeders on the front porch. My wife and I stood firmly against the house to watch and it was like Grand Central Station.

I’m on my second bag of sunflower seeds, added to a dozen duet blocks and two smaller bags of “premium” seed. I’ll have easily 2/3 dozen goldfinch plus others a couple minutes after I put out a new batch.

In the winter, don’t get too many birds here, too freaking cold. We do get mourning doves once in a while and a blue jay now and again. They feed on the dried plums in our trees, they do fight with the squirrels to get the plums.
