A wood fire warms you twice, once when you harvest it and once when you burn it.
I figure it heats you at least 3x. Cut, split/stack and burn. We used to have 75 stairs from our driveway up to the house (log house on stilts on steep rocky lot). I kept all the wood under the house and hired my neighbor kid who was in training for hockey to haul slabs up the stairs. I got to feel like a philanthropist and he got paid to do dryland training. Win win.

Hatchdog, it’s good to thin the pines where you are. I’m looking at properties on the north side of the border in similar areas to you and fires are always in my mind when assessing candidates. The leading contender is 10 acres with pretty much zero trees on it. I would be planting a bunch. Mostly deciduous so I have summer shade and winter sun.
