Range Day on Thursday

Post by Sir Henry » Tue Oct 13, 2020 1:48 pm

The weather is very wet and windy today and the forecast is for more rain and wind. Thursday might be my best day so that is my plan.

This Henry pump has never been fired because I wanted to scope it. I recently ordered a scope for it but it won’t get here till next week.

So I robbed Peter to pay Paul and it now wears a Redfield 1-4 scope.

What I like about a 1x scope is you can shoot with both eyes open. This is not a very good picture although it does show the 1 to 1 eyesight.

I couldn’t get my phone camera to focus on the target.

I think this combination would make a good squirrel gun. Or am I totally off target thinking this is what the scope was made for?

I’ve never hunted squirrel other than the occasional pest control so I’m really guessing. I have shouldered it and followed blowing leaves and it seems like it would do the job.

I have a couple of squirrels that seem to think that my garden house is delicious. You are most welcome to come down and test out your new squirrel slayer. I am going to have to look into that Redfield scope.
Load on Sunday and Shoot all Week.......okay it's a Mare's Leg I will reload on Wednesday. ;)

Interesting setup! What ammo you going to shoot? Think you need some of those plastic Indian targets!

I’m thinking maybe HV shorts. I can load on Sunday and shoot all month. Actually I’ll try those, some standard velocity long rifle and some HV. Any ammo that is in front of me.

What is the kill zone about an inch? A squirrel must think it’s a 155mm howitzer.

Plastic indian targets are racist. Can I shoot members of a political party instead?

Any brand one power will work. Even up to 1.5x you can keep both eyes open. After that the power throws me off and I close one eye.

I should be working in the yard cleaning up yesterday’s storm damage but instead I’m preparing for tomorrow’s range day.

My Henry pump will be the main firearm I will be shooting. Since it is considered a pistol caliber I’ll be able to shoot on the pistol range out to 25 yards.

I want to zero it for 25 yards shooting the Aguila HV shorts since I have several thousand rounds of it. I’ll shoot the other ammo also just to see how they will do.

If you can’t see the ammo close enough it is:

Aguila HV shorts
Remington HV shorts
Remington Subsonic LR HP
Winchester HV shorts
Eley SV LR
CCI CB shorts
CCI HV longs, 29 grain 1215 fps
CCI Quiet LR

I may not shoot the Winchester shorts as I only have 50 rounds of it.

I actually threw some of those in the ammo box but at these prices I can’t afford to shoot these everyday.
