Look what followed me home
Saw this on the morning news... said he'd stumbled upon the mountain lion's cubs during a trail run in Utah's Slate Canyon.

Re: Look what followed me home
Sorry, they are very dangerous. Wouldn't have followed me more than about ninety seconds. I have seen the headlines...
"Jogger killed by mountain lion."
"Cougar mauls mountain biker on single track."
Mine would read, "Cougar no match for Grumpy Old Marine out for walk with wife and granddaughter."
The .357 snubby sounds like a 155 on the artillery range. One warning shot close enough to spray her with debris. If she doesn't head for Texas...
... The next two would be a lot closer.

Re: Look what followed me home
It would have been raining rocks if it was me. Fleeing just makes them chase.
It looked like he may have picked up a rock at the end and the cat ran.
BTW, I am always healed.

Watched that video earlier after seeing a report on the news. I agree with coop that it looks like the hiker bent down just prior to the cat running away. 10mm 180 grain hardcast is the rock I would throw.......

Re: Look what followed me home
70or more years ago we had a lobo wolf on our farm. My younger brother encountered it when he went down to the bottom land to cultivate a field of corn.
It approached the tractor and snarled at him. He upped the cultivator and headed out in road gear.
I was up in the yard when he came steaming in and he told his story and I said, "Oh, BS!', but I took my 30-30 and went walking down there.
The field was in the middle of heavy woods at the end of a ravine and by the river. I didn't see the wolf, but I could smell the stink of his kills.
I had to take a semi on a trip that morning so I headed back following the creek.
I had just crossed at a shallow spot when I heard something behind. I turned and there he was following me. I raised the rifle and he disappeared into some
heavy brush before I could fire.
I went back up and told my Dad and said I would like to go back the next morning and shoot it. Then I took the semi and left.
That afternoon my Dad and his friend took my 30-30 and went down and shot it. The DNR came out and it weighed 103 lbs bled out. They figured it was an
old male that the pack kicked out. Wolves in our area were extremely rare.

Re: Look what followed me home
I always carry when we are out... But it reminds me of the joke were two friends encounter a grizzly in the woods. The one guy drops his pack, takes off his jacket...
His friend asks in a whisper... "Hey man, what are you doing?"
He says, "Getting ready to run..."
" oh man, The griz is fast, you can't outrun a grizzly bear dude. "
"Oh, I know, I don't have to outrun him," he said pointing at the bear. " I only have to outrun.... You. "

The guy with the camera didn’t sound big and scary like he said he was and the cat knew it.

Re: Look what followed me home
Saw that yesterday and during the first minute I was thinking. Where is his handgun? Obviously not with him so then for the next five minutes I was wondering, Why hasn’t he thrown a rock at it? I guess being eyeball to eyeball with a critter that could eat him was a bit stressful. But I wonder if he was using a cell phone to video this he had one hand totally useless for self defense. Kind of glad he caught that much video so we could see how the cat moved. And that it was determined to drive him away. Had he tripped and gone down the end of the video may have been pretty gruesome.

He actually said, "Where's my gun?" Halfway thru the video.... I remember yelling "You left it home locked in the lockbox, locked in the safe, locked in the closet, moron."

Saw that on FB yesterday. Scary thing. Don't know why he thought it was a good idea to video it.
I rarely ever buy a rifle, but when I do, it's a Henry.

Probably because his generation video’s everything. Those of us with gray in our whiskers would apply 100% of our efforts to survival. As mentioned in a few posts above I was pleased to watch the video as it was very educational but he should have not bothered. I am amazed at just how fast that cat was when it ran away from him. Imagine if it was running towards you at that speed.
