The best and worst western movies:
Re: The best and worst western movies:
I knew Herb Parson’s was used in the movie but not the gun or caliber.

There was a good write up with photos from the film set of Winchester 73 in Guns Of The Old West a few years ago.

That's about the only Redford movie I can stand...would have been better with Sam Elliot in it...

Re: The best and worst western movies:
Jeremiah Johnson is a great film. I've watched it a few times. I'm sure I'll watch it again.
Redford has been featured in several of my favorite films, such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, The Natural, A River Runs Through It, and The Old Man and the Gun. He's a talented Director, too.
There are performers, writers, and artists (past and present) who I could never share enjoyable time with for one reason or another; but I still appreciate and admire their talents and enjoy their work. Robert Redford is not one these. I'd buy him a drink.

Jeremiah Johnson was based on a true story, the Crow Killer, John Johnson. The book is a good read.
I like the movie also.

Been a long time since I saw it. Will have to watch for it.
I think it was RR who said it was just on recently. TMC if I remember correctly. Maybe they'll have an encore showing.

Re: The best and worst western movies:
Watched it yesterday. Only criticism, and it's picky but his saddle was not period correct, was too modern.
Plus I realize it's for entertainment but all the time spent thrashing about in winter creeks trying to get fish....same as in the Revenant...would you not try to avoid getting soaked as much as possible in winter?...

Thank you, Al. I appreciate that. Looking forward to the camaraderie and learning a thing or two along the way.
And if you don't mind my saying, that's a keen eye you've got there.
