Footballs back

Post by 220 » Thu May 28, 2020 2:46 am

At least it is down under, NRL National Rugby League kicks off in a few hours, my team the Parramatta Eels up against the Brisbane Broncos.
Last meet in post season playoffs last year with the eels posting a 58-0 win. Certainly don't expect as one sided game tonight, it was the biggest win in playoff history and the competition has been going for 112 year.
Should be live on FS1 for you blokes in the USA although I think it will be at about 3.00am

Wish they’d broadcast rugby here in the US. Those players are truly tough.

I have 2 South African footballers (rugby) that come into the place once in a while. Man, those rugby guys are some BIG rough and tumble dudes. I would think they'd be able to kick some Wuhan butt! Good to see contact sports are being played SOMEWHERE in the world.

34-6, eh? I say the Eels really shocked them!!

Yes, and unlike the sissyfied sport the nfl has turned into, with mostly thugs and disrespectful players they have now.

Slowly, bars re open Monday, 50 person limit and table service only.
Still social distancing for near everything, there is talk we may see spectators at NRL matches mid July.

We have been very lucky that the restrictions put in place seem to have worked, our infection and death rate has been a fraction of what you have been experiencing.

I wouldn't say the NFL is sissified but I agree completely that many of them have been coddled thugs for years. And they think we give a crap about their political opinions. Just shut up and play football (for $200 Grand a game, no less!).

You have your own Rugby League team to follow in the British Super League the Toronto Wolfpack.
Almost a Disney story for them going from a first season in the 3rd tier competition in 2017 to playing in the highest level this year.

from Wiki
The Toronto Wolfpack are a professional rugby league club based in Toronto, Canada, which competes in the England-based top-tier Super League. The team first played in 2017 in third-tier League 1 and finished first, winning promotion to the second-tier RFL Championship at the end of its inaugural season. The Wolfpack were the regular season champions in both its first and second season in the RFL Championship. In 2018, the club competed in The Qualifiers, where it was one win away (the Million Pound Game) from promotion to the top-tier Super League. At the end of the 2019 season, Wolfpack won promotion to the top tier Super League with a win in the Million Pound Game.
The club is the first North American team to play in the Rugby Football League system, the first fully professional rugby league team in Canada, and the first transatlantic rugby league team.

Great to see the New Zealand Warriors have a win and fantastic game yesterday.
They are the only international team in the NRL and the comp restarting was dependant on them.
With international borders closed and quarantine periods in place they relocated to Tamworth in regional Aus at the start of the month.
Left behind family and friends in NZ to go into quarantine and a cycle of hotel room, gym and training field.
Paid off for them yesterday when they almost became the first team in history to go through a 80 minute game without making a error. They made it to the 75min before the first mistake. Won 18-0 and the first time they have held a team to 0 in Aus for 14 years.

A few hits from last weekend

Some highlights of Maika Sivo from last season 6'1" 230lbs fast and agile. Bit of a favourite not only plays for the NRL team I follow but when he moved to Australia from FIji to try and make it he played for my local team. Survived on $120 a game match payments and any odd jobs he could pick up through the week. Took him 4 years to make it to the NRL and a million dollar contract.
