Dealing with my USPS gun delivery today....

So I'm tracking the delivery of my new revolver this morning being handled by the USPS. Scheduled to be delivered to the local gun
shop here in town today,Saturday, I see it was out for delivery this morning. After lunch and not hearing a call from the shop I recheck
the tracking and find that at 11:54 AM it was listed as a "Failed Delivery".
So I went by the shop thinking maybe something had come up and they weren't open..it is a gun shop and shooting range.
I pull up and see plenty cars there and walk in and speak with the counter guy. He said no deliveries had come in yet and this was 1:15 PM now.
Very concerned I get home and call the shop that sent out my revolver to verify they had received the correct FFL info and they said yes.

So now after contacting my local Post Office I am awaiting a call back from the supervisor to track this thing down.

The local Post Office knows where this gun shop is located so conversation should be interesting!

Yep if it can go wrong it's with me...always in the Twilight Zone!

Forty, the experience I've had with USPS tracking, is, to put it nicely, unreliable. Weekends are even worse.
I feel your pain. I've been thru that many times. I wish some private co., like FEDEX or UPS wold take the thing over. USPS is continually going broke & the Feds have to bail them out.
So, don't feel like the Lone Ranger, you have plenty of company. Hang tough pard.

I hope your local PO Sup is better than ours. Ours will tell you to go online and file a 'lost' complaint. For me that has been a black hole. Never heard back.

USPS has been trouble for me. They have lost 2 of there MO and I wont buy from anyone now that wont take a check or a card. They can hold the check as long as they need to. It takes 60 days to even be able to file a claim to get back the MO and then you need to pay to file the claim. Forty I hope you find where it went keep us posted.

It all worked out. I called our local PO and the lady said it was right there on her counter. She said the business wasn't open when they tried to
deliver. So I said fine just send it down to the gun shop so I can pick it up since the PO is only 2 miles down the road.
The shop opens at 10 AM on weekends and they listed it as Failure to Deliver at 11:54 AM.

Anyway it is here now and a picture and description will be in the handgun forum.

Glad it all worked out for you.

Many are down on the US Postal Service, but I have over 31 years of great results by them.

Probably about a 99% record of flawlessness.

And I have shipped 1000's of packages.

I think it might have something to do with the local post office. USPS is so bad in my area I always spend the extra money for shipping UPS.

We HAD a great mailman for twenty years, then he took a promotion. The new gal drives the route with her cell phone glued to her head. Mail is often lost/misdelivered, shows up several days later. I honestly believe she sometimes gets tired and holds the last part of her route to deliver tomorrow.

We have a great mailgal. Brings mail to house, right to the door when it won't fit in our remote from us mailbox. One of her reliefs will come to the house too, but he won't get out of his truck. He throws it from his window to the porch. Complaints go unheard, he still works for the USPS.

We had one mail lady for a while that needed straightening out. After a few of my complaints directly to her, she stepped up. This was when she was new. I believe she appreciated that I dealt with her and that I did not go any further. Although she sure may have gotten that impression.

Our regular guy is a gun guy, good guy.
He knows I have the 41, sometimes when I receive lead he asked if it's for it.
He loads too, cause the other day when the new tumbler came he commented.

USPS is so bad in my area I always spend the extra money for shipping UPS.

They must be pretty bad then. As mentioned above I ship many per year. I use the USPS as much as I can and only use UPS when absolutely necessary. But we can't control what gets shipped to us very well. USPS damage is almost non-existent. UPS damage sure has it's record. Way too often their boxes are crushed, poked and full of black dirt. We've had our share of damage and near damage. Some minor things we just let slide.

I have things regularly “delivered” to my warehouse on weekends by USPS. Almost without fail, if it is set for a weekend delivery, I will get a “failed delivery attempt” email, even though my guy was there hours before the so called attempt. It’s frustrating, but apparently SOP for weekends.

I had an order years ago that started its journey via UPS from San Diego. It traveled for three days to Chicago. From there it went USPS for some reason to Richmond Va. Then it made its way to Greensboro Nc. I live just outside of Charlotte so at that time I was thinking great it should be delivered in at most two days. It traveled past me to Atlanta then down to Texas. Then back to Greensboro, then Charlotte, then to Concord, finally to my PO in Harrisburg. Total travel time was 13 days.

I bought a ML rifle off GB, and the dealer was in Southern Ohio, probably 425 miles away.
Well it went north some 400 miles then past me down the Miss. then back here.
Took like 11 days, and it traveled some 14, or 1500 miles.

That's the kind of thing I've seen happen when the shipper uses 'UPS SurePost' or. FedEx SmartPost'. The packages get almost all the way to my house via UPS or FedEx and then enters the US Postal system for the final leg of delivery. Then the packages take a 384 mile round trip detour to Bellevue WA. Adds days to the delivery time.
