Our Great Freedom

Post by PT7 » Thu Jun 30, 2016 8:54 am

Good Day, Everyone. Already folk around here are talking about their plans for the upcoming holiday weekend. So since the lounge was built to "sit back, relax, and talk with friends," a short celebratory chat sounds good for the 4th of July.

There are countless words written about America. For me, it's an enjoyable task to dig in and unearth some favorite word treasures about our great country and its history. Quotes are particularly cool, because they are short, and reflect what that person is thinking and/or feeling.

So to celebrate our Independence Day, here are three that I like, which were made by three quite famous people. If these few words encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the Freedom and Independence we are blessed with in the USA, I'm glad for that! :D

Trust everyone will enjoy the holiday weekend. Be safe!

"Patriotism is not short, frenzied outbursts of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime."
Adlai Stevenson

Thank you PT,
Our independence day certainly means more than burgers and hot dogs on the grill. A few too many beers and a night topped off with fireworks.
May we all take time to truly appreciate what so many gave their lives for. They not only stood up for themselves they stood up for us and changed the world.
I ran across this video, the singer is an amazingly talented young lady.

I want to add this one to the conversation on our great freedom.

If it doesn't set you back in your seat and make you know how we came to have it, then nothing can.

Your post does more than " make you know how we came to have our freedom," CT_Shooter.
Simply cannot find the words....

Beautifully sung and with powerful words, RSb....thanks for posting this young woman's recording.
And the sequence of pictures throughout was excellent. Around halfway through the song, I especially liked when we saw the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima. I thought it fit in very well.

I received this email reminder this morning (underline is mine).

"As we celebrate our nation’s freedom, let us remember that there are men and women far from their families and the comforts of home today - missing hugs and kisses, birthday parties and baseball games, praying for a safe return to the country and the people they love.

These are United States soldiers; some are our brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, parents, neighbors, classmates, friends. Others we have never met, but they risk their lives daily for our freedom.

We may honor them on specific days, but their service makes a difference in our lives every day. Please join our military folk also in praying for their safe return home and to their families."

Thanks to all who would do so.
