Wand'in Star & The Wind Mariah

Post by PT7 » Sat Jun 25, 2016 9:46 pm

Earlier today Army Scout shared that neat Western song by Lorne Greene. I really enjoyed listening to it....but I also got an extra treat from the other songs listed on that youtube page. There were two songs from the 1969 movie, Paint Your Wagon. And are these two voices ever on the opposite ends of the sound/musical spectrum!!

One is by Lee Marvin, who stars in the movie, singing "I was born under a Wand'rin Star." Marvin played a most unusual, and very comical, character in the movie. But to hear Marvin sing was a big surprise! Here is that re-mastered video/audio link:

At the same time, one of my all-time favorite songs is "They Call the Wind Mariah," which was performed in the same movie. It was sung by that great baritone Harve Presnell. (Admittedly, Presnell's voice runs circles around Marvin!!). I also think the scenery and photography blended to support this song were great!

Enjoy-enjoy! :D This was a good day filled with music!

Thanks, I had never seen Paint Your Wagon, and I never knew that Lee Marvin had a singing part, but it is a real pretty song. The other one, They Call the Wind Mariah, I had heard before but I think it was by another artist by the name of Frankie Laine.

There were two songs from the 1969 movie, Paint Your Wagon
Which almost NEVER got finished. Between Lee Marvin's constant drunkenness, Clint banging Jean Seberg in his trailer and the Hippies that were hired as extras constantly being stoned it was a challenge.
