Cleaning out my attic.....oh boy..continued..!

Post by fortyshooter » Mon Aug 12, 2019 7:55 pm

Yep I had put it off way to long and while taking a look of it all resembles a 1980's craft and Christmas shop along with a Toy's R Us!
So put a dent in it by noon and then went on to other chores.

Things packed in plastic bags just fall out as the bags just crumble away. All of the old toys belonged to my son who is now 38 and he's coming
over to pick some items that could be worth a few bucks like Match Box cars and various He Man and other super hero stuff.

I just wonder what the possible R value is of boxes of stuff packed all around?

tip of my cap to you for doing so ... I haven't been up in our attic years and right now I can't think of a good reason to get up there .. :?

Reading this makes me think of the many people in my hood who park there cars on the street or driveway because they have so much stuff they have no way to get there cars in the garage. To each there own but I sure do like parking in the garage in the winter time. That ice scraping and snow removal just dont do much for me.
Don't let the old man in

I found some holy grail.... connecting parts of Voltron!!! One of my son's favorite toys and now maybe collectible!

He came by to pick up his daughter who is 8 yrs. old now and when he saw that Voltron part his eyes lit up!!
Voltron was a robotic type creature made up of various sub robots that snap together. So here is my 38 yr. old son in his good clothes going up into
a now very hot attic on a mission to find the rest of Voltron in a sea of boxes and crumbling bags of toys!! He is coming over this weekend to help me clean up. We found a mint pair of those white leather Power Ranger gloves with the sound effects chip inside and his daughter claimed those!
I also dug up a nice wooden double barrel rubber band shotgun of which I will do a Range Report on!!

I just took a break from more cleaning up there and found another Voltron part....the search continues!

Need to get it cleaned up there since attic insulation is coming which is part of my new solar power install.

Good for you.

Not long after my kids moved out I pulled everything out of our attic and told them to take them or I would get rid of them. Took a few years after they left to convince my wife that I wasn't just being mean but eventually she let me do it. I personally don't like just hanging on to stuff and the older I get the harder it is to get in and out of the attic. I kind of have a rule I try to follow which is if I don't get into it within a year it probably isn't something I have any further use for. Besides my whole point was if they wanted it bad enough they would have probably taken it with them.

Not only did I get rid of everything in the attic in my house but also the attic in my shed as well. The majority belonged to the kids and a few items of which belonged to me and my wife. Anyway I was able to consolidate everything we decided to keep and put it in the shed but nothing had to go back into either attic.

Amazing how much of that stuff they actually threw away. Keepsakes are fine but it is amazing how much usually ends up not being worth keeping.

We still have Rescue Heroes and Fisher Price cowboys and pirates toys in boxes. The boy is 26 this year. He and I had lots of good times with that stuff....:)

My brother in-law actually stores stuff for his family. Not only his but his sisters and brothers. When they moved recently he had to lease storage space until his new house was ready. I think he is still leasing storage space because the new house is smaller. Sorry, but that's when it really gets stupid in my opinion. At some point the space you rent cost more than the stuff your storing.
