While at my favorite shop last month, I usually ask the owner if he has anything interesting in the back room. Out came two 12 ga shotguns. A 1927 Winchester pump with a very fancy rib sight and a Fox Sterlingworth side by side. I really liked the Fox and it was put into the "cart". If I dated it correctly, it is a 1921 year production. It's not pristine, but very nice for a century old. I'm not big on 12 ga, but I didn't have a longer barrelled double. This would fill that nicely. It just fit right.

I like older shotguns. My first was a Sears 311 I got with my very first credit card. A Sears charge. My Stepfather thought the card was a mistake and would get me in trouble. Mom thought I would use it wisely. A purchase, pay it off, a purchase, pay it off. For the most part, I did. Every now and then, I used it for emergencies. Tires, brakes, auto repair stuff I couldn't do...

That shotgun was a good one, shot skeet with it and won a LOT of Turkey shoots. The right barrel was evil at Turkey Shoots.

Holy cow, that shotgun starts on Sunday and extends to Thursday.

I've always loved side by side shotguns. At one time, I had a Charles Daily (made by Miroku) 20 gauge, which would now be quite valuable had I kept it. The Fox Sterlingworth side by side, though, is a true American made classic. Beautiful gun, Dave, Congrats.

And the short list remains in tact. Side by Sides are definitely old west. Every time I see one I think of Walter Brennan in Rio Bravo. Ive looked at getting a coach gun to have for that reason but I havent done it YET. Congrats Dave

Dave, mighty fine sir. I like the old SxS's, how long are the barrels?
I have an old JP Stevens 12 ga. with the exposed hammers, I think it's wrote down with the SN. on it's date but I don't recall.
It has the 28" barrels.

Al, I wouldn't mind having one of those coach guns, make mine a 20 ga.

I agree, but I think it's because the fore end is so much smaller than others.

I'll have to pull mine out and look at it.

Okay, I pulled it out and it does have 28" tubes and the forearm on this one is only 7.5".
Here it is with the bbs 41 mag. for a length comparison.
