Here’s the Rossi I did the range report on. Next month I’ll be had it two years. It’s been a good squirrel gun the last two seasons.

I LOVE that it is a single shot. Good for you. My best memories from the old days when I was hunting were my outings with some single shot 22s and single shot shotguns for squirrel, rabbit and pest hunting.

I had a slew of single shot 22’s in Woodinville before I moved. Wish I had them now. Wish I had my Winchester 9410 too. At least it went to my friend in Alaska. I had it for a decade and shot it but never took it hunting. My friend has in less than a year has harvested dozens of grouse.

Them old single shots can bring back memories alright. When I was growing up, folks had one or the other, not both. They either had a single shot .22 rifle or a 12 gauge single barrel shotgun.

For me it was mostly single shot 22 bolt guns like the Winchester 67. About as simple as it gets in a bolt action rifle. Had several single shot shotguns over the years, though.

These days I shoot current production single shot rimfires with our Winchester 1885 Low Walls, but those are a much different breed of single shot. Way, way more expensive, for one thing. Not a utility gun like those vintage bolt 22s.

I looked today and the one I still have is a Model 67. I'm pretty sure my Dad's was a Model 67 also. I think my wife's Dad's was a Remington. Not sure though. My son has both of them. Have to get him to look. Only thing I ever knew Daddy shooting in it was shorts.

Shorts and even Longs were pretty common back in the day. For just plinking down in the pasture,we weren't too picky. I did actually use HV Shorts for squirrel hunting, though. Was very good ammo for squirrel and rabbit at the typical shorter ranges I used to shoot.
