I have been looking for one of these for quite a while, then one falls into my lap over the weekend. Funny how that happens.

2008 Marlin JM stamped, .410

Thank you for the kind words. This one is part of the "special run" for Cabela's in 2008-2009. It was made toward the end of the "real" Marlins, but the fit and finish is actually rather good. It is limited to 2 1/2" shells, but that limitation is not a big deal to me. Some say this shotgun is the answer to a question never asked, but I have wanted one for years. I will be shooting it this weekend, so we will see how it performs.

It may be the answer to a question never asked, or a solution to a problem that doesn't exist... but it is mostly likely very fun to shoot anyway!

Agree. I have always thought the lever action shotguns were interesting. Frankly, I have never seen one in up close and personal, but would love to try one.

Well White Squirrel, make the drive down toward Atlanta and I have the ammo and the time for you to try mine. lol

I will know by Saturday afternoon if I like it or not. I have several different makes of .410 ammo, going to try to find the one it likes the best.

Please post some pictures from your time at the range. I'm really interested in seeing how this works out.

JCN I went to the range yesterday. I had my son and DIL with me and forgot to take pictures. I should have remembered, but just did not.

The Marlin functioned flawlessly, but it was a bit stiff, and we really had to close the action firmly. It did get a bit better about about 15 rounds, but only a bit. I believe I will do some opening and closing while watching football today. The groups were OK, not really great in the beginning, but we all got better as the time went on. I don't believe I could shoot clays with it yet, but given a bit more time,....who am I kidding, I am just not that good a shot!!! My son, DIL, all loved the Marlin, but with a 22" barrel, my DIL did have a bit of difficulty grouping even at 10 yards. Might have been a bit front "heavy" for her. Overall, I would recommend this little shotgun. Love the lever action even though it is a bit stiff. No problems loading, no FTF or FTE problems. I had wanted one for some time, and I have to say the wait was worth it. Sorry about not taking pictures, but we did have a blast! Pun intended.

Yeah there is probably a better .410 out there for clays. What loads did you use?

Just some off the shelf stuff. Winchester 2 1/2 6 shot and Winchester 2 1/2 8 shot. No issues with either round. Next time, when I go by myself, going to try some of the hotter rounds and see if there is a difference. Thanks for the interest.

Marlin made the .410 in 1929 through 1934, then stopped. It was reintroduced in 2004, but only for a year or so I believe. Don't take that to the bank because I am not sure. Mine is from the 2008-2009 Cabela's run, which was very late in the "true" Marlin production. JEBar, I wish I could tell you where to find one to see, but I can't remember the last one I saw in a gun store. Most of the one's I see are on GunBroker, or some similar auction site.
I got mine local from an older gentleman, well, he is older than I am. He bought it for his grand son new in 2008. The grand son just did not like lever action guns. So, he bought the grand son an AR and sold the Marlin to me, at a very fair price. Anyway, thanks for the interest.

that's a great history to pass on with the 410 ....

Henry makes one now! Due out in March according to there website.

My friend bought one of those for his grandson. The kid is 6 months old, my friend says he'll keep it in shooting shape for the next couple of years. He did OK during dove season with it.
