Had one gave it to the step daughter. She likes it and I liked it when I shot it. Good gun. No issues.

I have the SR1911 Cmd which is 4 3/4 barrel length and of course .45 ACP.
Fantastic shooter I can just pick up and get right on target. Only issue was the front sight that was known to break off after 600-1000 rounds on the early models like mine. I bought it shortly after the Cmd came out. Ruger fixed it quickly and have had no other issues.

I had one of the first when they had just been introduced. No issues, very comfortable to shoot. The cast frame on the standard SR gives a slightly different feel during the shot than a forged steel frame, but, if anything, it tends to feel even smoother. As always, though, when buying any 1911 in this price range, you will encounter differences in the trigger and fit and finish, one gun to the next, out of the box. Not a big deal, as long as you are patient and wait for a good one and do an inspection before buying.

I don’t currently own a 1911, but if I bought one it, would be a Lightweight Commander in 9mm. Yummy! I think it is a lot of gun for the money. Unfortunately my eyes no longer agree with iron sights so almost all of my guns are now wearing optics....

The sights are nice...three white dots to line up and easy to see.

I have both the SR1911 full size 45 and the lightweight commander in 9mm and love them both. I have 1900 rounds through the 45 and like fortyshooter the only problem I had was the front sight shearing off. Ruger fixed it for free (including 2nd Day Air shipping) in one week. I loved that pistol so much I realized I could go broke buying 45 ACP ammo. So I decided to buy the 9 mm lightweight commander. I put a heavier recoil spring in it (16lbs I think) because the factory spring was very light. I was afraid the gun would beat itself to death with such a light spring. I have fired about 2500 rounds through that pistol with no problems.
I think they’re great pistols for the price.

How is the accuracy of your 9 mm? I have grown impatient with inaccurate guns, I don’t want to waste my time with them. I have a nifty CZ P10 F with optic that is amazing.

I bought my SR1911 (5 inch 45ACP) in 2014. It has almost 1700 rounds through it so far. I love it, no malfunctions that I recall. After owning it a while, I noticed that it would consistently put a dent in the brass case, caused by a flaw in how the breechface is machined. I've thought about returning it to Ruger to be fixed, but since the pistol works just fine, I've never gone to that trouble. I would recommend that if you decide to buy one, inspect the breechface to confirm that it is properly machined.

It’s more accurate than I am. Ha, ha! The only pistol i shoot better with is a Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 with a very light Apex trigger installed. Here are some targets. Keep in mind I am not the best shot. The pistol is capable of much better than I can do with it.

I certainly understand the lure of a 22 LR single action, especially a Ruger Single Six. Congrats. You'll get a lot of use out of that one.

A little late to the party - but I have several handguns - in the semi auto, protection class I have three. I managed to pick up a new P229 super cheap (many years ago- it was one of a LEO overrun that were special ordered. .40 cal, short reach, short reset trigger, short extractor, E2 grip and it was "melted" (corners and stuff milled down) in the custom shop. Picked this beauty up for about 6 bills. I only wish I could shoot it well. But it sure is pretty. I also have another Sig - one of the late model P365's. Say what you will about them (the shooting world has) but it's a darn good shooter and super easy to conceal. And the reason for this post - an SR1911 CMD. Of the three, the SR1911 is the shooter of the group. It points naturally, fits perfectly, good trigger and smooth as butter. I've found the Hornady 200 grain (NOT the +P) is its favorite food. Light recoil, heavier than a 185 and hollow point. It wouldn't be my go to in my home, and in all but cold weather the 365 gets the nod. But when the sweatshirts come out, so does the ruger. As others have noted the 45 ammo is pricey but the ease at which the SR1911 shoots requires less practice, so I guess it evens out. I'd buy it again at the price I bought it the first time in a heartbeat.
