Like the guns and appreciate the quality, but too fancy for me, lol.

I would no doubt be chastised to the ends of the earth but IF I were insanely rich and $4,500 (the asking price for these guns, each) was like $4.50 to me I would consider buying one and actually shooting it.

My reasoning would be is while I UNDERSTAND there is a potential of dramatic loss of collector value with something like this if shot the fact remains I have a personal problem with unfired 'safe queens' - and why I do not and never will own one.

Guns in this category typically have a 'terminal value' which is often a perceived value and not necessarily based on an average of sales of similar guns.

This is not unlike the pricing of early Colt Pythons. For several years it seemed to be set at the $2500 - $2700 average ASKING price - but few were selling. I have personally seen Pythons at local shows, LGSs & pawn Shops setting in the cases for years unsold.

So what does this mean? The price is too high? Probably. Guns are not a 'commodity' and do not rise and fall in value as a commodity does. While somewhat rare these Colts are not 'vintage' and are going to have a very narrow field of interested people willing to pay this amount just to set them on a shelf and look at/show them occasionally while in effect, $4500.00 is laying on the shelf in the safe, not doing anything - and possibly never increasing in value - if they were even worth the asking price to begin with.

If these were in fact true, Gen 1 or even Gen 2 SAAs there might be a better, wider market but these are Gen 3's and probably not so much.

Bottom line is the owner of these has little to no chance of selling them on the particular forum they are on - and probably not much trying to sell them conventionally. His best bet would be to take his chances in an auction where there is a captive audience of truly, interested buyers.

I thought very seriously about buying the USMC M45A1 1911 Colt came out with a couple years ago. If I remember correctly, when the civilian run first came out, they were limited edition guns, and were serial numbered with a USMC preface and a limited run. (Can't remember the limit or the price, but I was considering one.). What stopped me, was knowing that I WOULD shoot the gun. That money would be better spent on a less restricted gun, and lots of ammo.

Al, like you I have no SQ's, or desire to own one.
The closes thing I have to one would be my Winchester Classic, but it gets shot some.
Not a lot but some.
If I bought those, Gen. 3's I'd be shooting 'em.
I have no use for a gun I can't shoot.

I might buy something like that for a mantle mounted conversation item for $200 or less. Too pretty to shoot, so useless otherwise to me.
