Ruger Redhawk 357 8 shot

Anyone here own one or shot one? If so how do you like it?

No experience with an 8 shot .357 but I have shot my friends 6 shot .44 mag several times - and like any .44 Mag they all take some getting used to and practice!
An 8 shot cylinder might start to look out of place a bit due to the larger diameter but I can not say having never seen one.
No doubt accurate however as are the Redhawks typically.

What barrel length? Makes a difference as to whether you're getting the round butt grip or the square. I had the round butt version in the 45 Colt/45 auto with the 4.2" barrel. The round butt grip, itself, felt nice to me, but not on that big and heavy a revolver. Seemed a mismatch and more so when I shot the gun. This is very much a personal prejudice on my part, though. I've never liked a round butt grip on a big revolver. Much prefer the square butt version of the Redhawk.

I don't think that the eight shot .357 cylinder could be any larger in diameter than the .44 nagmum one. It is the same frame size.

Id go for the 5.5 inch version myself so it would be the square butt. My close friend has a redhawk in 44 and I have shot his. But its been a while. Kinda like the sound of 8 shots in 357.

a Redhawk is a handful .... have never seen on chambered for 357 but I can see how it could work .... recoil shouldn't be too bad but I wouldn't want to fire it long with a one hand hold

There were actual some 6 shot Redhawk 357s made for a time. The problem was the Redhawk cylinder weight with only 6 357 holes was overly heavy and caused cylinder notch peening when you worked the action with any speed. The 8 hole cylinder version solves that issue.

If it's just the 8 shot 357 feature you want, I'd also take a look at the various S&W versions. Smith is the one that popularized the 8 shot 357 and they've been doing it a lot longer than Ruger.

I agree.
The Redhawk is just one Ruger gun that never appealed to me.
No quality issues or otherwise just the design and the way it 'holds' I do not care for.

We have an 8-shot/5.5"/SS/357Mag Redhawk and we really like it - big, heavy, solid, well-made revolver. It's weight really sucks up the recoil from 357Mag rounds, making it a real pleasure to shoot - recoil is definitely not an issue with this gun. It has a different kind of action/feel than the other Ruger DA revolvers (GP-100,SP-101,SuperRedhawk) - seems like the hammer pull is a touch longer when firing single action. We also have a Smith&Wesson 627 (8-shot 357Mag/4.2" barrel) and it would be hard to choose which we like better - probably the Redhawk because of the barrel length - a 5" barrel just seems like the perfect length for a big revolver to me...

Thanks Forty I did watch that video a while back. Its of the shorter barrel. NCG I thought about the smith 627 but Im not fond at all of that flat side barrel they put on those not to mention the price of them is a couple hundred more than the Ruger. Thanks Tad nice to hear from someone who has one.
