N.I.B. Old Model Super Single Six

Haven't been shooting as much as I normally do, but I have been busy collecting some impossible for me to pass collectible guns. This one is especially dear to me, since a Ruger Single Six was my first handgun I acquired as soon as was old enough to legally carry a handgun. It was the summer prior to my freshman year in college and my friend and I were working on her grandfather's ranch as a summer job, mostly on irrigation duties. This was back in the day when most irrigation was still being done from canals using tubes. Pivot systems were just getting started. My first paycheck was used to buy a Ruger Single Six. It was the gun that taught me how to shoot a pistol.

Here's a slightly older Single Six, made in 1965, but unlike my old Single Six, which was the standard fixed sight model (the only version the little rural gun shop had), this one is the Super Single Six model, the Super designating adjustable sights. What made this particular Ruger impossible for me to pass up is that it has been sitting in a safe, unfired, since 1965, with box and all original papers. I'll let the pics do the talking, from here on, but I will add that this is the absolute tightest, best fit Single Six with the best out of the box trigger on any Ruger I've ever held in my hands. I'm sure you're most pleased with this "new" gun for your collection, NCG.
This Six-gun being so similar to your first-ever gun, and to find this one in pristine, unfired condition, is very !!

In my opinion, that would be so sad. I hope it doesn't simply sit boxed up in a Northern safe for another 50 years. I'd love to see many range reports.

Yes it is but finding something like this is rare and shooting it would diminish its value dramatically and I can't imagine NCG paid 'shooter grade' price for it.
This is like finding a 1965 Mustang with 3 miles on it.
It's one of the reasons I have never bought an unfired, collectible gun - except new.

I make it a rule NEVER to buy a gun to collect dust and remain unfired. This gun will get shot. The way I see it, the gun has been waiting since 1965 for me to come along and buy it and shoot it. It's my duty and will do my best.

Getting the base pin out after all these years of sitting and the grease drying out was a challenge, but I managed. The gun is all cleaned up, ready to shoot.

Congratulations on your find... It's a keeper.
I was offered a 1958 Single Six by a friend of Miss Tina's several years ago when the lady went thru a rough spot. She said she needed $150 right away and that was all she would take for the gun, which she had owned for thirty years. It was in excellent shape, other than needing a detailed cleaning and the screws all tightened. The hammer pivot screw was sticking up from the frame 1/4". I finished with the gun, wiped it down, and put it in the safe, always intending to shoot it, eventually.

About two months ago, she called Tina and asked her to see if I would consider selling the gun back to her. She had turned her life around, been on a new job over a year, and would love to have it back. But, if I didn't want too, she would understand. I had let a number of guns go over the years, and never gotten the opportunity to recover any of them, so I didn't hesitate. I sold it back to here for the price I paid.

I will eventually put a single action in the safe, but it will likely be a centerfire.

Yes, I paid a fair price at $550, which is about what a new blued Single Six runs, these days, but this is a new gun, too, with a fit and finish and bluing superior to what Ruger produces, these days, and, of course, it has a Colt action, which I love. Should make a great shooter.
