Nice job. Without the front sight malfunction, I'm sure you would have shot expert, although to be fair, you did pull at least one out at twenty five yards... But... That still would have put an expert bar on your shirt.

You mentioned that you're not a Glock fan, and, as I recall, you said you had little experience with Sigs. What is your personal semi-auto of choice?

92% is still an excellent qual score, even with those unexpected challenges.

I thought that the sight malfunction was a good reminder to everyone that any man-made tool can break down. Of course, it would put an LEO in a tough spot during an active-shooter encounter. Also tells me to make a more thorough check of my firearm's function and components before packing it in the range back and heading out.

And then there is Murphy and his law...

When we transitioned from the Model 64 to the semi-auto, we set up a series of test and evaluation sessions after narrowing the choices down to about a half dozen. I had a panel of officers doing the eval, and unlike many departments, they weren't all gun folk. Of the eight, two were active competitors, two were gun people, two were average shooters, and two were baseline shooters who squeaked by on every requal.

After the T&E, the two recommendations to the Chief?
SIG P220 45 and the Glock model 22 40 caliber.

The Chief went with the Glock based on a $125 per unit savings, lower ammunition cost for training, practice, and requal, and lower maintenance. We stayed with that model for about three years, then down sized to the Mid-size Glock 23. They still carry that model today.

It is one of my three personal choices for CCW, the other two being the Smith 340 357 snub for hot weather, and P220 for Winter.

Hi everyone! Sorry it's taken me so long to get back here and respond to some of your comments. I was up at Camp Perry the past 3 days for the National Matches and I didn't have much time to check in. Thanks for all the great responses, and BrokenolMarine it looks like you have a fine trio of carry pistols in your rotation.

By the way, an M14 (actually a Springfield Armory M1A) decked out in Sniper regalia complete with a Leatherwood ATR scope followed me home from Camp Perry. If you all are interested, I'll put a link to the review video in the rifle section when I get it done.

We shot match grade M14s in High Power matches during my time in Hawaii. Always loved the accuracy at 600 yards with open sights.
