When I joined the military back in 79 the 1911 was the service pistol for the military. It wasn't my originally assigned weapon as for my MOS and paygrade I was assigned a M16A1. However when they picked me to be on the pistol team I was given one to use. The 1911 has and probably will always be one of those firearms that always comes to my mind when I think Semi Auto pistols.

This one is a bit different but as it doesn't shake rattle and roll and it's a 9mm. For my old arthritic hands the 45 is a bit of a challenge to say the least.


My first 1911 was and is a Dan Wesson VBob and ever since I was thinking about getting a Wilson Combat 1911 in a longer slide version. I was a bit overwhelmed with the choices for awhile but after looking around the Classic is the one that appealed to me the most. Just so happens I was able to also find a Supergrade version which greatly appealed to me without having go through the waiting process which could be rather lengthily.

Those were my thoughts as well. I'm just fortunate I was able to find one availible instead of having to order and wait for one. I would have waited but glad I didn't have too.

Beautiful 1911 and I do understand about grabbing one of Wilsons while you can. Very much in agreement on the 9mm thing, too. Not only easier to shoot than the 45 auto, but also easier to rack the slide via the lighter spring used. With my sometimes arthritis, that can be a big plus.

Not long ago I went into a shop nearby that always has a few Wilson Combats in stock and I had great difficulty racking the slide on the 45s. It became very apparent then that a 45 was not realistic for me at all.

That is a great looking pistol.

Most Wilson Combat Pistols are tack drivers.

Picked it up just last Friday and have yet to have any time to get to the range, hope to be able to real soon.

Very nice 1911. While I have never owned one I am a huge fan. I get to shoot one once in a while and have added one to my "want" list.
