Thought I had scratched my itch for a while and it would be safe to visit my local gun shop. They had just gotten a used Kimber custom ll 1911 in 45 acp and I picked it up without thinking. Mistake, I have read the reviews but have not handled one and this one was priced reasonably so it came home with me to join my other 1911s. I usually try to apply the 24 hour rule but I figured it wouldn't last because while I was fondling it another customer came in and said " heard you had a Kimber for sale". MINE. Supposed to be cold and wet tomorrow so it will have to wait a week to play with.[attachment=1]IMG_0561.jpeg[/attachment

Looks like someone has added a Commander hammer, Videki trigger, beavertail grip safety and a flared magwell.
Cold and wet? Hose it down with Rem-Oil and get out and blaze away!

When looking for a 1911 initially I considered a Kimber but decided to go another route. Something about the way they look that just makes me always stop and look.

I thought at first you might have stumbled on a 'Clack' Kimber - an early one made in Clackamas, Oregon but I see the 'NY ' on the frame after enlarging the pic.
The 'Clackees' or 'Clacks' have a little more resale value and are somewhat collectible.

I own one Kimber and like it. Yours looks good with the added accessories

I have a Tactical Ultra II from the Kimber Custom Shop and like it very much, however, it's very ammo sensitive regarding bullet shape. This is a pain, since it doesn't care for most hollow points, and Miss T bought it for me as an off duty gun. I stuck with the Glock 23 and carried the Kimber in the truck as a backup.

If it still has the plastic backstrap (the part below the grip safety), its easily replace with metal with maybe a little filing. Looks great!

Wing is referring the the mainspring housing.
It will either be plastic or metal and can be replaced with an 'arched' style that fills your lower palm a little better. Personally I prefer the arched style.
Look closely and you can see the 'arch' in the mainspring housing on mine.

Congrats. I've owned several Kimber 1911s and have actually had very good reliability and accuracy with them. The beauty of a 1911, of course, is that you can swap parts to suit your tastes. Let us know how it shoots.

Yep - nothing fancy - just a basic 1991-A1 with some minor internal work done on it.
It is however capable of 1.5" groups (benchrested) with carefully loaded ammo.

The backstrap is metal but is not arched. It also has night sights on it. Trigger breaks at 4.5 lbs, a little heavy. My Dan Wesson breaks at 3 lbs.

I have a few Kimbers and must say I am bias-they are what I carry daily-either a Super Carry Pro or a Pro Aegis.
The mainspring housing on yours is integral with the mag well funnel-all metal also I might add.

Shot my Kimber yesterday in between storms. At 25 yards it is hitting 10" low, shot at the top target and bullseyed the target below. Would have been a great shot if that was what I was aiming at.

That's odd, isn't it, Ernie? Did you take any shots at closer distances? Seems like big elevation variance, even for 25 yds...

Can't tell from the pics if that front sight is dovetailed, but if so you can go to a shorter front sight, but probably be easier just to go with a taller rear sight. Plenty of choices, there.

Shots were pretty much spraying around. Took it home and had a better look at the barrel and I am not happy. Fit is quite loose and there is pitting in the grooves on the muzzle end, guide rod worn and the recoil spring may have been shortened. Guess it has had a lot of rounds run through it. Not had any problems with this LGS before so I took it back to talk about it. The gun smith was not there but they assured me it would be taken care of even if it had to be sent back to Kimber. We will see, now I simply wait which is something I am not so good at.

Sorry to hear that it's not what you expected, Ernie, but glad you've got an accommodating dealer. By "fit" I assume you mean barrel/bushing fit being loose.
Sounds like you've nailed it as a fairly high mileage one, but the great thing about 1911s is that they're highly restore-able!
I hate the waiting, too, on a newly acquired fun gun, but sounds like it will be well taken care of.
