S&W 686 vs. NE Handgun Course

Hi all! Here's the next installment in my series on qualification challenge videos. In this one, I'm pitting my S&W 686 against the Nebraska Law Enforcement Handgun Qualification course. To see how it fares, check out the video!

Nice work, HR, in shooting both the revolver and the video!
Looks like you've got that 686 well-tamed! I never could shoot mine that consistently - very cool!

Thanks! I really like that 686. It has one of the best actions I've ever felt on a DA revolver.

Is it stock or did you do some mainspring/rebound spring replacement or other mods?

Looks like you are having a little bit of difficulty drawing from your holster. Was wondering if it is a newer holster; may need to be broken in a bit.

So far as I canb tell, it's box-stock. I bought it used however, so it's possible a previous owner might have done something to it. If so, there's no indication of it.

And you still passed the course. That speaks a lot for those who don't. Also, it is a credit to your ability. Just my 2 cent.

I love to watch the split screen vids. Nice job. Very nice work adapting to the gear problem. Been there.

Really enjoyed the vid. Thank-you. Always a treat to watch someone who knows how to shoot a DA revolver. By the way what vintage is that 686?

It's an early '90s model. It still has the square butt grip frame.

How significant is vintage of the 686? I have a 6"

It's mostly a matter of interest to S&W purists. An early 90s model would have no lock and no MIM parts, for instance. Not that those features in any way affect performance, but some Smith fans can get pretty touchy about these features.

Thanks NCG, was just curious. Mine is pre-lock. Probably mid to late '80's.

If I remember correctly, I think it was Rob Leatham many years ago that won some big matches using the 686.
24 time USPSA National champion and7 time International Practical Shooting Confederation World Champion.

Very true. Have had vintage and brand new 686 Smiths and all have shot well for me.
